    Fun with colors

This is my pallete at the end of painting the crane picture that I posted in the Wildlife Forum. You can see that I've applied my normal organizational skills to my painting.

All this mess originated with 4 colors - Pthalo Blue -Quinacridone Magenta - Transparent Yellow, and Titanium White. One of the really enjoyable things about painting is coaxing all these colors from just 4 and controlling the warmth or coolness of them. I was amazed when I found out you could get some nearly black and a nice range of grays this way.

By using the limited pallette, I don't have to worry so much about whether the colors work together since they are all mixed from the same 3 pigments. I may be limiting my work some ways by using that limited a pallette, but it is probably far more limited by my inexperienced brush work right now.
