focus stacking
Has anyone here done any focus stacking photography? I like the idea but am too lazy to do it.

It's used to extend the DOF in micro-photography. Many photos each one focusing a different section of the object, so when the photos are merged the whole object is in sharp focus. The procedure is very similar to taking an HDR photo.
One of my friends has done it but he is one a different photography forum. I just wish I had a link to post to his work.

Re: focus stacking
A great technique to have up one's sleeve. Obtain precise DOF while maintaining that nice OOF background that comes with wider apertures.
Can give a pseudo-tilt-shift lens effect. Haven't yet tried it on people/cars/buildings but will if the application is right.
This shot is a 9-image focus stack:

Re: focus stacking
Excellent work loupey. I recognize the usefulness, but as I said, I am a bit too lazy to do it. Maybe some day, but was wondering if anyone was up to it...
