fishsticks for Jetrim and Grandpaw.
These didn't turn out very well but was limited for background and actually had a hard time finding good sticks. Know it isn't real good so didn't bother with putting it in critique.
Re: fishsticks for Jetrim and Grandpaw.
probably should cut down on that saturation...lol
Re: fishsticks for Jetrim and Grandpaw.
Looks to me you had fun.
Now, what I see wrong:
Well I was going to say, it looks to grainy like a high ISO, However I noticed you only shot at a ISO of 100, so it must be the shallow depth of field playing mind tricks on.
It also looks like you did an extensive amount of sharpening to the fish. that is according to the fine white line on the left and right side of the right fish, I can also see that same fine white line around the left side of the center fish.
I also wish there was a little space under the tails of the fish.
other wise from my needless nitpick I do like it.
Re: fishsticks for Jetrim and Grandpaw.
Frog, this looks like it is from an episode from "Man Verses Wild". After "Fish Sticks", whats next, "Chicken Nuggets"? Jeff
Re: fishsticks for Jetrim and Grandpaw.
Hey Frog, even if you're not happy with the results, you got out there and gave it a go, and that counts for something! With the forest I've seen in the background of many of your shots, it's hard to imagine a shortage of sticks, but I understand that not every stick is strong enough to hold up an entry from your local "filet & release" tournament. Other than looking oversharpened (from here anyway) I think you did pretty good, and the background is nice. I like that you got all the heads above the road portion of the background and into the greenery.
Re: fishsticks for Jetrim and Grandpaw.
Thanks all.
It really didn't look quite that over sharpened before I posted it. If I have time tonight I'll try a re-do.
This was shot a half mile from the house. Walk down a trail and veer left. Part of my problem was the dog was with me and kept walking into the pics or trying to catch salmon which I tried to explain to her was illegal wiithout a license.
Not a road, jetrim.....its the creek bed...water's quite low/.
Re: fishsticks for Jetrim and Grandpaw.
The documentaries we get here normally showed Grizzly bears feeding off the the salmon
did they become a nuisance while taking this photo ? :)
Re: fishsticks for Jetrim and Grandpaw.
I had my 357 with me and fired several rounds into the air to scare several away before going down near the fish. Also had my dog along to give me warning barks.
Not really. Bears on salmon aren't much of a problem in Washington but I did think about it and kept my eyes open.

Re: fishsticks for Jetrim and Grandpaw.
Better edits? Lost some of that over saturated/ over sharpened look. Guess I was tired or something. Also did a b/w still some fringing but couldn't seem to get rid of it.
Re: fishsticks for Jetrim and Grandpaw.
both versions you posted there are better than the 1st posted. both have their merits, perhaps with some layer masks and a few b&w adjustment layers you could get the left and middle fish to stand out more
Re: fishsticks for Jetrim and Grandpaw.
I personally like the b&w version the best. The color one to me seems to be missing something, And I can't put my finger on it.
Re: fishsticks for Jetrim and Grandpaw.
Thank you caleb for commenting and advice. One of these days I'll learn how to work with layers. I've experimented but have no idea what I'm doing.
Thank you, too, icicle. Perhaps it is because the fish in the color version blend too much into the background?
