    First of Yosemite pics...

Well, my wife and I absolutely enjoyed ourselves with Gene and Penny, Brian (Kokopeli) and his two sons at Yosemite this weekend. For Claudia and myself two days was NOT nearly enough time to shoot pictures. There's a photo op around every bend in the road. But, we did get to visit most of the major attractions and then some. The following photos are only a sample of just how AWESOME this place is.

#1 I don't know the name of this mountain but it was looking very intriguing as the day was nearing its end and as the clouds were looming overhead.

#2 Reflection at Ellery Lake, just outside the Tioga Pass entrance into Yosemite park. My wife spotted this one...too bad it wasn't early morning. Could've got that crystal clear reflection.

#3 A familiar sight*El Capitan. I used Penny's "L" series wide angle for this shot. After using this lens I've realized that I've got to get one myself. Far too many of my pictures could have used the extra range. Don't let the picture fool you...the dome is a LOT higher than it looks in this photo.

#4 Our group photo at Tuolumne Meadows with the afternoon sun blazing in our eyes. Left to right: Brian and his two sons, Claudia and Ray, Penny and Gene with grandson Terrance.

    Cool That's where you've been!

These are all beautiful images, Ray. I'm so glad you posted them. The scenery is awesome, and you certainly captured the images. Lots of detail, and beautiful colors, good composition.

The group photo is also nice....thanks for sharing it. I'm glad Penny & Gene's grandson came along.

Looks like absolutely perfect weather, as all of your image's color jumps out at me. Excellent work, and thanks for the group pic...always great to see our fellow PR photogs. :-)

    Question question about lighting

Hi, I'm new here, but after looking at your pics I have a question. I just returned from King's Canyon (Sequoia) two days ago (July 11) and found it so hazy there's no way I could get color like that. Was the weather perfect like that when you were there, or is it your equipment?

    Hi Kellybean,

The answer is...both!! Perfect weather and good equipment (Canon DRebel w/Sigma lenses). Down here in L.A., however, it's practically worthless on some days to even attempt taking photos of the mountains because of all the haze and smog, so I know how you feel. Did you manage to get any shots while you were in King's Canyon Park? If so, please post some of them even if they are hazy. My wife and I were thinking about going there sometime so I'd like to get a preview of it before we decide to.

not exactly sure of where we were...

I'm not exactly sure of the name of the section of park we were in...but we drove from Visalia through Lemon Cove (?) and up into the park that way, winding up the mountain till we got to the Giant Forest and the General Sherman. We almost went up to Moro Rock (2 of the pix I posted here) but decided against it for various reasons, time of day being one of them. I figured it would be much too hazy for any kind of a view at 4 pm.

I'm not sure of the name of the other "rock" formation but it's visible on the way up to Moro Rock.

I take a lot of pictures out of airplane windows and for them, I always take them into photoshop and adjust the white and black levels to get rid of the "empty" sections on both ends of the spectrum (do you follow me on this?) which generally cuts the "haze/atmosphere/window" dullness that is always on those shots. But it just doesn't seem right to do that on ground shots, somehow. Do you ever adjust for color on your photos?

    one more thing

I do like how the Moro Rock picture shows the Giant Sequoias around the base. I think that's so neat!

ok, I quickly did my little cc in PS. The first one is just eliminating the non-existent white and black levels; the second is trusting Photoshop to do autocorrection. I don't like the autocorrection.

    Hi Kellibean,

Wow, King's Canyon Park looks to be a nice place too. Just may have to schedule that in sometime this year. All your photos seem nicely composed, but you're right about the haze...makes it rather difficult to get a clear shot, doesn't it? However, if you happen to have the REAL Photoshop program, as opposed to PS Elements, you can do a lot more in the way of correcting your photos. I took the second to last picture of yours and applied selective color, contrast, hue/saturation, curves, levels, and unsharp mask to produce a much clearer photo. I'm sure I could do better if I had the original file to work with.

    Unhappy disclaimer

just to make it clear, I'm not thrilled with any of these shots. I've got MUCH better work than this.

But I was hoping to get some comments about color correction out of it, and hopefully shrackman can see what he needs to see to visit....
