Very nice. You and I are on the same track. We both bought the Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 XR Di II at the same time and we practically bought a Canon 70-200mm "L" lens at the same time. We happen to have the same Canon 50mm f/1.8 as well.
L glass is indeed very good, and so are those shots! next time you buy a lens, be sure to check some reviews, because sometimes other lenses are just as good for $$$ less.
I <3 my 400mm L glass. it is fantastic! I need to get a 2x for it. :-)

There is nothing like getting new gear. And when that new gear is top of the line then it is even sweeter. Great purchase and very nice images. Now go out and justify that buy with tons of beautiful photographs.
Don't forget about the Gallery. Are your photos there??

Enjoy the new toy!
We do seem to be on similar tracks don't we? I really just need to get out and shoot more. Thanks for commenting.

Check the reviews I have! That (and a few direct recommendations here) is how I got the Tamron lenses. Thanks.
I had a thread asking what equipment I should take on a trip in October. I also posted a list of equipment I intended to take that included the 2x TC. I got overwhelming advise to go with the 1.4 instead. Check it out.

Congratulations on this new awesome Canon lens! The shots are great......I love the color. You'll have a lot of fun on your vacation with this lens!...
Thanks, I am looking forward to it.

No way! I just got it and I'm not giving it away to anyone! Good photographer or not!

Will do!
BTW, I've meant to ask you for the longest time...how does one become a "Professional Grouch"? I, myself, am a natural grouch but I don't get paid for it as the term Professional Grouch implies. Where do I sign up?

Sure is. You get spoiled instantly with pro glass. It's hard going back to anything else afterwards. After my "L" lenses got stolen 4 years ago (along with my EOS-1V HS) I tried compromising with the 28-135 IS lens, but in the end I splurged and got all of my "L" lenses that were stolen replaced. There's this warmth of color that non L lenses lack, plus the edge to edge sharpness, and of course the faster apertures and the all important bokeh.

I liked my 70-200 f/4 lens. It was light, relatively inexpensive and sharp sharp sharp. I eventually traded it for a 70-200 2.8. The extra weight and cost was worth it to me for the extra stop.
I do miss it, though. It really balances well on a 10D.
"If anyone is selling a 2x Canon TC MKII for less than $240, contact me!!! :-)"
E-Bay. You might get lucky. I got a 2x mkII as part of lens camera and lens package on ebay (EOS-3, tamron 28-70-piece of junk-, 400 mm f5.6L, and the 2x mark II, for $1200 or so, plus shipping and insurance) but I already had one, so I gave it to a friend for Christmas. There's actually a couple out there now under $150 but it's early still. IMHO, the 2x is so-so, but 2x is 2x when you need it. :-)

The eventual plan is to have essentially two sets of lenses. The two Tamrons and the 70-200 f/4 for hiking and outdoors types of things. Down the road I want to get the 16-35 f/2.8L, the 70-200 f/2.8L IS and either the 24-70 f2.8L or the 24-105 f/4L IS for use in less rugged situations.
With the Tamrons and the f/4 I figure I'll cry about 1/3 as much if I drop it down the side of a mountain.
Do I have a need for all of the L glass? No. I just want good toys for a change.
