first place photography winner

hello guys, i was recently reading my photoshop user magazine, and i saw the 1st place winner in photography for the guru awards.
has anyone else seen this picture?

its called "Australiana", i think its a cute picture, with the family and the dog. and i really love the expression on the mothers face.... but i dont really understand what makes it first place? could someone please explain? i dont mean to be rude in anyway, but i am just curious. Thanks
