Through the month of August, in Logan, Utah, a town two hours North of Slat Lake City, sat a rolling recording booth, from the "Story Corps Project".
It's been roaming the country for the past two years, and when I heard that it was coming to Utah, I knew I had to go, and I knew I had to go.
The purpose of the Story Corps Project is "honor and celebrate each others' lives through listening.". What does mean exactly? Well, bascially they record a conversation you are having with a person of choosing, I choose my mom.
The recrodings will be archived at the Library of American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress.
I have known about Story Corps for sometime now, because I have listened to the weekly samples they play on NPR.
I knew there was only one person I wanted to do this with, which was my mom, who has been couragously fighting cancer for the past 12 years. I wanted to hear the stories from her life, directly from her.
This first photograph is outside of the mobile recording booth.
Listening to some of the more interesting recordings just before we went in...
The better of the only two frames I was able to get inside the recording booth. The moderator/engineer preferred I not make any photoraphs while we were talking, to which I replied that the sound of a camera clicking was all too common with me, and besides my rangefinder is a lot quiter than most cameras. He won, oh well...
Afterward, they took our picture both separtaly and together and finalized a few notes that will accompany the recording.
Anyway, check out the Story Corps website and if it will be coming to your city sometime soon, make an appointment and take someone!
