    Having fun with the priest...

I posted this on critique forum to get some feedback but really didn't get any for some reason. Maybe posting it on the weekend had something to do with it. So, I'm posting it here for critique and comments. Would appreciate any.

This is an Episcopalian priest that I know from the town next to us. He used to be a writer or something like that in Hollywood but gave it up for the cloth. Being a Baptist preacher myself, we wind up having some very interesting discussions!

I shot this last week at a mixer as he was leaving. Fooled around in PS (using mask and blur filter) to get the effect. Wanted to do something different with this portrait. Did I succeed? Love it, or hate it?

I like it, but then I'm a sucker for this sort of shot. It reminds me of when I used to have a pull/push zoom and I'd zoom in during the exposure. It would render a similar blur pattern.

I think the b/w works well for this shot and I find it amusing that his crucifix seems to be hanging to match the skewed angle of the camera.

    Well done Ray.

Critique's moving fast lately, shrackman! I saw this one and hadn't had a chance to comment...but I really like the angle and blur, etc. He looks a little like he has a halo...which is kind of neat in a picture like this...

The blur along with the slant give this image a real unique look. I like it and think it's one that the subject would find very pleasing as well.
Don't forget about the Gallery. Are your photos there??

i like it alot. i interpret it as the priest is clear so he is basically what you shoudl be drawn to, while the area outside is unclear, as if thats where the unclean live. religiously, of course.

Thanks Brian! Yes, when I saw the cross around his neck I realized it went perfect with this sort of shot. I was unsure, however, how people might respond to the zoomed in look, but it looks like its faring well so far.

Thanks Emily. I do have a tendency to post my images there at the wrong time. I don't know why but I usualy do it like on a Friday and they get lost in the mix. I didn't notice the halo effect..thanks for pointing it out!

Re: Having fun with the priest...

Thanks OT! I'll find out thursday if Jeff (the priest) likes it or not. My boss at the Chamber of Commerce is one of his congregants, and I had emailed it to him to show Jeff. If he likes it I plan on printing out a 5x7 for him to keep.

Whoa, a religious interpretation...that's the first one, and I like it!

Re: Having fun with the priest...

Thanks Eric! Like I said, I wanted to do something different with this portrait. Most times people see religious leaders very somber and serious, which they should be, but they are human as well and sometimes even like to have fun. :-)
