A Few Shots From Myrtle Beach

Specifically, from Ripley's Aquarium. Shooting through up to 18 inches of plexiglass is interesting, to say the least. Also, the low light levels can be frustrating. I took some shots at the SC Aquarium in Charleston back in December, so I had some idea of what I was up against. ;-)

If these load in order, then you should see a closeup of a shark, a clown fish (they are tiny!), a sea dragon, which looks like a mutated sea horse on steraroids, and a silhouette of my lovely wife.

Hey these are some neat shots, really like the silhouette of Dawn. Some pretty dificult shooting situations there.
Don't forget about the Gallery. Are your photos there??

I appreciate the comments. Shooting in an aquarium is made to order for a tripod - which I didn't take in with me. Also, you have to balance shooting at an angle so you don't get the camera flash in the photo, vs how much plexiglass you want to shoot through. It is challenging, and the number of keepers definitely drops off, but it very gratifying when you get a couple of really nice shots.

The silhouette was a real challenge. I knew I wanted that shot, but the shutter speed was was way too slow for any sane person to be atttempting that shot handheld. I guess I'm not sane. ;-) I must admit that it came out better than I thought it would.

I appreciate the comments! I knew I wanted this shot - I wasn't sure if it would come out. Next time I'll carry my tripod with me!

Something for you to try next time you visit an aquarium. And all your friends will "Ohh", and "Ahh", and tell you how fabulous you are!
