    Favorite trees

The subject keeps coming up. This week my daughter Sarah was telling me about her favorite trees at an Easter Seals camp where she works on weekends. Today she took me on a little hike to visit them. This huge white pine grows vertically at the very edge of a vertical sandstone point. It has large roots that run back along the top of both faces of the rock and then run down its face. I really liked it too.

    Chunk,

What an interesting and odd tree. There's a few oddities up here in our vast forests, some of them are quite stunning. One of the ones that comes to mind is this old maple they had out on some public property and they built a concrete barrier about 3 feet deep underground and three feet above. The roots stopped at the barrier, grew up and over it, and kept on going Amazing isn't it?

Amazing. It always amazes me when I go to the mountains how some trees grow on top of the rocks, with very little soil. Simply amazing.

BTW, it is a VERY interesting tree!
