    Farm Heritage Show...

Some shots from the Farm Heritage Show. I'm taking a class at the community college in 'People Photography' with the emphasis on photo journalism. The first images are for the first weeks assignment to get some people pics and bring the best few to class. The prof is a local newspaper photographer and the story is the point of his photos - the best picture explains the event even without a caption.

(EDIT - cleaned up the text - must have breathed too much diesel).

    Four for class.

All good shots, but I think the first and forth fit the assignment best.

Good stuff, OC. I didn't even make it to our big local fair this year but this is the kind of stuff I like to shoot there.
I also wish our local community colleges had more than beginner photo courses.

I really like the last shot in the first series. Those colors really work well together. Great story!

    Thanks all.

The fourth is my favorite, but it is seriously lacking in the 'people' part. People are hard to shoot - they flitter around more than birds and there's always one in the way. I suppose that someday I will actually get the guts to actually interact with and semi-pose them.

I also think that I could have improved some of these with some fill flash to even out the harsh sun. Agree?

In the first set of photos I like the first and last the best also. The first one looks like Jonathan Winters to me in a dress. The last one I like a lot but wish the sign on the wagon would have been straight and that the man on the tractor would have been looking more toward the direction the tractor was facing.

In the second group I prefer shot number two with the train and all the kids having fun. All are very nice shots, Jeff

You captured some nice shots - my favorite is the first one. I love the expression - with the hands!

Keep posting your pics as your class goes on. I enjoyed viewing these.

One and four in the first group should get the profs attention. Good work. Hope you enjoy the class and come away from it with even more of a love for photography.
Don't forget about the Gallery. Are your photos there??

    Re: Farm Heritage Show...

Update on how they went in class. Prof liked the first one best and also liked the 4th one if the assignment was an event, not people. He picked a different one of my petting zoo shots to isolate the same people. He also picked this one as a good environmental portrait.

    Thanks for all your comments.

That's great! I like this last one as well. (not sure if he's cooking or blacksmithing, but it works either way)
