Fair Warning!

Nothing like an advertisement for backups and encryption.

My entire computer bag was stolen from me. In the bag, among other things, was my MacBook and two portable hard drives. It's a real pain but...

The Macbook was backed up the day of the theft.The backup drive is stored at the school in a locked cabinet, not in the computer bag.

The portable hard drive with my photos and pretty much everything else less used was backed up last week. This backup drive is at home, not in the computer bag.

All sensitive information is in a highly encrypted file (TrueCrypt).

All sensitive web sites have "Remember the password" shut off in all browsers.

I have replacement-value personal property insurance that will, hopefully, pay me something to replace the lost stuff.

The only thing I didn't do was LoJack the computer. This time, I will.

Having several thousand dollars of computer equipment stolen is a pain and makes me angry. Being prepared makes me feel a lot better.

Sorry to hear about your loss, but good work in keeping back ups safe and in other secured locations. Good info and heads up for us all.

Wow! I'm sorry to hear of the theft. It's a lesson for all of us. Thanks for the warning - I'm not so careful! I hope you get enough back to cover all of your losses - except the emotional pain & annoyance it causes.
