    Hi Tie Wrap!

You should start off by posting pictures in the Critique forum. That's where I started a few years ago with my 1.3 megapixel Sony Cybershot camera! I knew absolutely nothing of photography then. They're a good crowd in there and can offer some good suggestions or advice on how to improve your photography skills.

Hope to see you post something soon!

We are all here for the smae basic reasons you have stated, and unlike some orther people on some oher boards, we love to help out the noobs. So just post some pics here Critque Forum. Or if you just want to share and not be critiqued post them here in the VF forum.

Hi Tie Wrap...I am a newbie also. I started in the forums back in May of last year with just my Kodak DX 4330 3mp point and shoot. I had been taking a lot of pictures with it for a couple of years and was very satisfied with it. That is until I joined here. In November, I upgraded to the Nikon Coolpix 8400. It's a point and shoot with full manual control. Then, my wife decided to get into photography about a month ago. She has already begun producing nice works, just from the advise we get here. I decided I'd have her start immediately with a DSLR and so got her a Pentax *ist DL. Well...this weekend, I decided it was time for me to join the big boys and I got myself the same camera. I started right here in Viewfinder as did she. Now I post in Photo Critique, Nature and Wildlife, Monthly Project, have several pics in my own gallery and of course I always post here in VF!!!
These folks here have been wonderful to me and to every newbie that has joined, that I know of. We are all glad to help!!
Welcome to the PR!!! We look forward to seeing your photos.

    Henry,

You'll love it here. I've been posting since Jan. 2005 and, as you can tell by my post count, have loved it extensively. It's a great place to learn, pick up tips, and be involved with. The critique forum is alot better than others I'm apart of, as people actually try to provide constructive criticism other than just "It's good" "I don't like it."

Enjoy the stay, hopefully you'll be here for a while,

    Jared

Almo, I can just see Tie Wrap reading your post " This is a smaple of my work" and thinking " Smaple?, What is that? Jeesh, I really know less than i thought about photography" and leaving for good. btw Almo, nice shots.
Tie Wrap, I, like most of us, started out knowing very little and posted in the critque forum. This is the best forum on the Web, as far as I'm concerned and everyone will be happy to give you honest opinions, suggestions, and advice on what to do to improve your pictures. Have a go at it, were glad you stopped by.

Hi and welcome - Critique is a great way to learn what is and isn't working visually. Just realize that everyone has an opinion and there are no absolutes. Pay attention to constructive criticism, especially when more than one person offers the same advice, and you'll learn quickly.

You might also pick up a book or two. A favorite is Boyd Norton's The Art of Outdoor Photography. John Shaw also has some great books on the subject. Down the road, be sure to check out Freeman Patterson's books and work but it's a little "out there" when you're first starting out. Norton and Shaw's books will tell you about more conventional ideas behind photographs and the techniques to get the results that you want.
