ever google your own name with photography?
every now and then, i do a google search of my name, and different subjects. Today, I did a search on my name and photography and found out there are several jane haas's who are famous photographers! lol So now i'm trying to think of a way to differentiate myself from these other clones. lol interesting.

Exactly why I've never paid to be listed in search engines...
Photography or no photography, google my name, Steven Hlavac, and I have no qualms with the results...

I have run google searches on my full name, and just my last name. My site (luyckx.tk v8 :: flipside) comes up third. Under my full name, the first page that comes it is the one from the 2004 ACM Programing Contest. Plus various other things under it, including my company's site (www.alcs.tk) If you run an image search with my full name, the pictures that come up are for the most part are of me.

Its a real pain sometimes, but my name brings up lots of references to a rather prolific Italian astrophysicist.

    I have..
And most of the time I find photographs posted on sites that I know about.
Sometimes though, I have found photographs posted, with credit, that someone else has uploaded or link to a site, without my knowledge.
I usually email the person to remove and they usually do.
    Good Post Janie!

    Great thread Janie!
I googled my name - and got me. But then I don't have a "common" last name.

I found out where I work - what I do.

I also found out that I'm the moderator of a forum on a photo website called PhotographyReview.com.

I don't know - maybe I'm weird, but I don't like the whole world googling my name. What to do.

I had done a google once and found my pics on an unauthorized site. The guy wouldn't remove them so I emailed him a bill for licensing the 5 photos, the worst part was he stole them from one of my sites! I gave him 30 days to pay $5000. He replied he wasn't going to pay so the next day he recieved a letter overnighted by my attorney. He still wasn't going to remove them. The next letter from the attorney went to his webhost who immediately shut the site down. This clown is, and has been making "monthly" payments to me ever since :D .

Don't mess with starving photographers, especially those that happen to have brother-in-lawyers  :p
The worst part is all he had to do was find out what it would have cost him to do ut the right way... I'd have let him have them for $100 (he can afford that... he blows that daily on his race cars).

It seems YAHOO search has a better # of true hits on me :)

The first on google is an image I posted to the WORLD bird species ID list :)

The second is a link to a singles ad I sent somebody! No really, if you know my full name, you will like that link!

Seems I am a birdnerd, photog... and a sender of good stories?

Liz, you're only option is to not have ANY presence on the web that can be linked to. Oh, and you'll probably need to remove yourself from things like voting registration lists, telephone directories, and motor vehicle registrations.

For things like people searches, The WWW is simply a data base for public records.

If you want to really freak out, google your telephone number. For most folks, the result is your name, address, and a link to map services to show ANYONE how to get to your house...

When it's all said and done, that's the double-edged sword of being able to find information on other people and things quickly when you need it... :(

Google McCabe Photography, and it lists my website on the top. Then it lists recent posts to some site called Photography Review....

Apparently I am a Hockey player, a competitive Fencing champion, and an actress.

As my previous name, though, the "real me" comes up as a prepress professional and speaker at a printing conference. Oh yeah, and a poet.

Oh, and as my maiden name, I'm apparently a jazz singer with a fantastic voice. :) I guess I co-founded a band called "Dave's True Story." I'll have to look them up.

the search first leads you to my site at photostor....

....then I revert to my youth and I become a kindergartener who wants a doll from Santa...

... then I live in some foreign land I can't pronounce and with a language I don't even know...

....then I'm in another foreign country...

and then I'm dead(literally...obituaries...3 and a half month old babay---how sad)

not really sure I like that one

...then I am reborn at Photographyreview...with an explanation of my screen name...ha

Yeah, I found that I'm dead too when I googled my first/last name...

    I'm dead in the 1800s

I'm also a pair of dogs. Actually numerous pairs of dogs

The title of a photo on a website for Dog Walkers in the town I live in is titled my first and last name, and it's a picture of two dogs playing on the beach...
