Discovering TLR medium format...

I found a really great Mamiya C33 and I am in love!

I took these a few weeks ago and finally had them processed today (such an expensive hobby!!)
As you can see, my very patient daughter allows me to photograph her in any which way I like. Just as well or I'd never be able to get out there and practice!! Dont want to do the stuff ups on clients :D

Hi Wendy,

These are great photos. I like the second one best. Is this your first medium format, or just your first TLR? My Yashica-MAT 124G and Holga, are my only MF cameras, and I like the TLR a lot. The paralax and reversed viewfinder take some getting used to...so I hear. I haven't yet..but that's my own fault. Anyway, they are a lot of fun, and a big bang for the buck. I hope you continue to share your photos with us. I peeked at your website and I think you have some really nice work there.

Thanks Paul. Yes this is my first TLR and my first Med format too! I am so loving it but like you say the reverse viewfinder is hard. Esp when you are trying to chase little ones around like I was that weekend!! Sadly only a few turned out with the littlies which is why I convinced my daughter to step in (even if brieflly!) Thank you for your lovely comments re my website too. I have to thank my son for creating it :D

Nice images Wendy. I owned various Mamiya TLR's for about 10 of 12 years and used them mainly to do weddings befor going to the Mamiya 645. I was always super pleased with the quality of image. The paralax factor is something to get use to paticularly with the longer lenses when you move in close. But it can be mastered.

Old Timer.. I use an 80mm lens in this and it works wonderfully for portraits. I just love the challenge of the paralax factor. It's interesting and really makes you think. It's certainly won me and I hope to get many more years out of this one!

I had a 180 or 200mm can't remember which now. The paralax was really radical on it when I would use it for the closeup ring or flower shot. The TLR's were a blast to use. I learned photograph on one in a photo class in college. They furnished Yachica TLRs for everyone. That way it was easier to compare negs and so forth.

So do you still have the TLR? I'm assuming not as you are using past tense. SUch a shame if you dont. I am rediscovering the beauty of photography with this one and I'd love to get more lenses for it. Sounds like a 180-200 might be the go! :D

I sold all the TLR stuff when I bought the 645. I was never as pleased with the results from the 645 as I was with the TLR. One thing I liked about them was the square format.. It gave you a different way of being able to shot things. Just all in what you get use to I guess.
