Indy Photog gets Picture Story of the year award

Indianapolis Star photog Matt Detrich won the honors last week for the Top Domestic News Picture Story. The award is given by the National Press Photographers Association "The Best of Photojournalism 2006" international judging".

Matt is one of three Star photogs I know and he is well deserving of the award. He earned the award for his series on Qudrat the Afghanistan baby brought to Indy for heart surgery. He followed little Qudrat from the time he arrived in Greenfield until he returned to Afghanistan, flying back to Afghanistan with Qudrat and his father on a transport plane.

See the full story and photos here: http://www.indystar.com/apps/pbcs.dl...43/1006/NEWS01

I was a bit surprised the Greenfield paper didn't get any recognition (that I have heard of at least) for the same story.

Truly gripping photos. My dad was a Marine, but passed away 10 years ago. He instilled all of the Marine values into me, and for that I am forever grateful. For all of you over seas or have loved ones over there...Semper Fi.

Realized I looked at the wrong photos, but the large market photo series is worth taking a look at.

Wow, some very moving shots in there. An interesting representation for the large market (AP, Dallas Morning News, Freelance, Time Magazine, etc.).

    Thanks for the links,

I have looked at almost all of the presentations and there are some rather amazing shots in all of the series.
