    Dawn Update
For all her fans out there...

The lovely wife renewed her drivers license this year, and decided to get her motorcycle learners permit as well. After riding my bike some, and looking to see what was out there, she test drove a bike she had been watching for a couple of months. She made an offer on it, and they took it. So, she is now the proud owner of a 2007 Kawasaki Vulcan 500.

A woman had bought the bike in March, put a windshield on it, and after two months, had a knee replacement and sold the bike back to the dealship. It had 506 miles on it when we went and test drove it. It fits Dawn like it was made for her. She loves riding it, and we've done a couple of long rides in the past week. If you consider 190 miles and 230 miles, long rides. As of last night, her odometer reads 1090 miles.

These are from the day she bought her bike, taken with her Kodak camera.

    A Few Riding Shots
    Taken while out and about.

First shot on the way to Wilmington. Dawn is ahead of me, and Brian is ahead of her.

Second is a morning shot taken on Monday.

Third through fifth shots are coming back from Harkers Island in the afternoon.

NOTE: I have been riding motorcycles for over 21 years. I do not recommend that anyone try to duplicate these shots!

Shot #1 in the second post - so that's how you got your name! :)

Plenty of summer left, and probably more where you live - enjoy it!

    Doh! Busted. Well, not really...

The nickname came from my Air Force days, back when I was 20 something.

"Plenty of summer left, and probably more where you live - enjoy it!"

We now have to decide on weekends, do we put the boat overboard, or do we go riding. It's a hard knock life, living on the coast. Do come by sometime, and we'll extend you some southern hospitality. We'll house you, feed you, take you out on the boat, and Dawn doesn't mind if we go off and take photo's.

What danger? I love her, she loves me, and we enjoy some of the same things. Now she drives her own bike instead of riding on mine.

"That's awesome that you've found another thing you can enjoy together."

    I am a blessed man!!!

"Tell the lovely Dawn hello from me, will you?"

    You got it buddy!

    Let's do it!

    Blue Ridge Parkway next fall?

We want to go to Deals Gap and ride the Tail Of The Dragon. 318 curves in 11 miles. Sounds like my idea of fun.

    Count me in. :)
The wife and I have been talking about a Blue Ridge Parkway trip on the bikes for a couple of years now. I have also hear about the Tail Of The Dragon and would love to ride that as well.

Thanks for the generous invitation, Speed - I have been to western NC and always hoped to get to the coast. One of these days I will!

Very cool Speed - its great that you two can do stuff together like that -

What bike do you ride ?

We were just down on the blue ridge parkway 2 weeks ago and all I thought while driving it was "man this would be sweet on a bike!" - we were out on the east coast for a short while, wishing we had more time than what we had - stopped in Kitty Hawk - checked out the beach for a bit and the lighthouse - grabbed some good grub and were on our way.

Unfortunately I sold my bike a couple years ago to help straighten out some financial issues - well they are almost straight and a new Honda VTX 1800 is soon on its way - if there is a bike ride on the parkway I will be sure to have it before then !

You have an invitation to stay at the Speed B&B.

Be glad to show you around, and take you out on the boat. We'll show you the Shackleford ponies and the Cape Lookout lighthouse. A good time will be had by all. Just work us into your schedule.

    :-)

Dawn and I enjoy doing things together. We've been riding my bike for a couple of years now, but since she got her bike, she wants to drive it every chance she gets. I ride a 2002 Suzuki Intruder 800. It's nothing fancy, but it gets around 50 mpg : 55 on my last fill up. It gets me where I'm going, and in the two years I've had it, I've put 7000 miles on it.

My college buddies and I go to the mountains once or twice a year. We go camping, hiking, and of course, photography is at the heart of our trip. Every time we're out there, I think what a great ride it would be on a motorcycle. We hope to go do the Tail Of The Dragon soon.

I've been up to the Kitty Hawk area, but didn't have time to visit the lighthouse. If you get back to eastern NC, then let me know. We're a few hours south of Cape Hatteras, but we've got a lighthouse too - Cape Lookout.

Maybe we should start planning a bike PR gathering. Say Labor Day Weekend 2008? Gives you a year to get that Honda VTX 1800. I'll start doing some research for a central location to base ourselves at.
