Great shot, Seb. I had no idea he was still performing. Looks like some difficult lighting, but you pulled it off well.

I really love doing concert photography myself. Wish I could have been there!

Thanks Ray. Lighting wasn't bad at all, I just metered for the brightest light and let the rest fall into place.

Drawing the ladies and looks like he can still put on a show.

I saw him a while back in the Vegas review, and he still had the chops and the moves.

Awesome shot, as usual. It's not just a typical "portrait' type shot but really makes him look like a rock star. You metered off the brightest highlight - with what? Are you using a 30D these days? I don't think the 10D and 20D had spot meters.

From a profile he kind of looks like Arnold. The Terminator.....

Sadly, no. The "spot" is adequate enough when used with a telephoto to get a nice tight reading, but a real spot meter would have been easier. I also check the histogram a lot and pay attention to what settings work with what lights. And I pay attention to the difference in brightness as he moves across the stage, going from the middle to either side can really affect the exposure, so I remember how much I have to compensate as the subject moves around.

I know how there's a huge change in light level when someone moves just a short distance, and then add on top of that the fact that the lights are changing... For me to try to do it that way, I probably would have ended up with a card full of crap. And the exposure on this one is perfect!
