    Water rescue

Finally, a water "rescue" not a body recovery. I was out at the Docs office making a special appointment when our dive rescue team was called out. Apparently this old feller drove his car off the road into the river. I am amazed he lived. The current was crazy fast and his little truck was 6 inches away from being fully submerged.

Great shots, and the FD lets you get that close congrats where I come from they'll have the cops haul your butt away.

Seeing this brings up something that Id like to see on this site a news photography section, I have done quite a bit of this work in the past and am now getting back into it.

is it really okay for you to post pictures here of these sorts of things? Someone just got in huge trouble for taking pix and showing them, turns out a victim had an exposed breast in one shot. I think the guy lost his job over it. It was in the news just this past week.

    Re: Water rescue

Well I am a member of the Licking County Dive Rescue Team, I have unlimited access. This guy was out in public on a public road, the law has no rights here unless I am selling prints. I also work for the local news paper the Newark Advocate. I am a freelancer for them. Morgan, a full time employee was already there. She was shooting video and stills. Her video camera was right in the way of the ropes, I would have kicked it in the water if it where me.

Beeing a firefighter and a freelancer for the news paper, what more could I need to get up close. The guys love to see their pictures in the paper and are always asking me for copies.

    Look at the tripod legs.

I didn't realize that the truck was in those pics above until you showed that last pic you posted. wow, he is lucky (totally and understatement). He did the right thing to sit on top of his truck, to many people try and stay inside and die. I agree I would have "bumped" her sticks also.

    Re: Water rescue

Wow, on a lot of accounts. I saw some of the comments on the newspaper article and it's a little hard to believe that people really think what they wrote... Anyway, good job to all involved. Swift water is a lot more dangerous than a lot of people realize, and when it's that cold it's even worse. The rescue is obviously the most important part of what happened and I really can't believe someone would set their tripod that close to equipment used by the rescue crew.
