    A couple of family portraits

I busted out the paper background for a formal portrait of my little guy Andrew. I think he stood still for a total of three seconds in twenty minutes! The other is my niece Shannon at the mall. Just a snapshot really but I liked it and so did she. I'm really loving my new SLR and the prints from the files are just amazing. Anyway, C&C are always appreciated and thanks for looking.

    Take care,
    Joe Mags

    Hi Joe,

It's good to see you around - and posting some photos.

You did a great job with both of the images here. Andrew is so handsome! The composition is excellent - you managed to capture quite a nice expression in those 3 seconds!

Your niece is lovely. I think it's a step above a snapshot! It's a very nice image.

BTW, did you get an SLR or DSLR? Which model? And which lens did you use for these shots - looks like a winner.

    Thanks OT, Frog and Liz.
Liz, I got a 1D MkIII DSLR back in February. It still seems so new to me since I just don't have all that much time to get out with it. I believe both of these were shot with the 50mm 1.4 which gives a field of view of 65mm on this body. Oh, and Andrew says Thanks!

That's a great camera, Joe. Perfect choice for your first digital. I have the XTi and I also have the 50mm/f1.4 lens which I love. It stopped working after about 3 years. I almost got a new one, but decided to see what Canon service had to say. They replaced the "entire inner unit" for $89 - and believe it or not it works better than it worked new.

    Great shots.

Re: A couple of family portraits

Thanks again everyone. The lighting on my son was windows to his left and a bit of fill from my on camera flash with the Gary Fong Lightsphere attached. The one of my niece was overhead mall skylights with some fill from direct on camera flash.

    Thanks,
    Joe
