Conversion to Sepia: A 6 Pic Model

When I was looking at all the wonderful links in the "fav photog's website" thread, I fell in love with the look and feel of the shots on the Collodion site. I had some time on my hands this weekend, so I took six shots of a model I had done a while back and tried to convert them to sepia and make them look similar to the Collodian shots.

I was pretty happy with these - what do you think about them?

You did well with the model, though I find the vignette and the high-key tone take away from the image. However, you are seeking a certain look so perhaps that comes with the camp? Anyway, the sepia works okay here,though I'm not too hot about it. Your third one shows it the best. The others are on the fence - a little more, or a little less toning would've been nice.

I can respect your attempts at recreating the collodion effect. I'd love to see more.

Thanks for taking a look and giving me some feedback, Rick - I wondered about the vignetting myself, but noticed it was part of the appeal of the old collodion pics. Maybe I just need to spend some more time on it and see if I can get it to look closer to the real thing.

While sepia isn't my favorite effect, it is nice with the proper model/setting/mood. The vignetting is a bit much and takes away from the shots IMHO. Maybe try toning it down a little? Also like Rick, I like the third one the best. Nice shot. I like number two and six as well, while the rest don't do much for me.

Definitely let us see the revised shots. Lots of potential here - looks like you started with some great shots and a great model. Just my two cents worth.

This was my first shoot with a model - I'll probably have her back in in the next month or so, and this time I'll have more of a clue how to shoot her. We've been friends for about 5 years, so she was very comfortable.

On the other hand, I have a shoot with a complete stranger (cute young blond I met at a bar and actually called me after I gave her a card) on July 2 - I'm hoping those shots come out good. She's had experience modeling for local ads and such, so at least SHE should know what SHE's doing. LOL

THanks for the comments - I'll play with the new pics and see what I can do with them. If I get a good method for doing this in photoshop, I'll share it with everyone.
