Re: Congrats Loupey
i guess i should point out, if you don't know loupeys name, location or photo subject matter: loupey's photo is the bottom one of birds, not the volcano one.

Re: Congrats Loupey
Thanks, everyone!
I'm looking forward to getting my issue in the mail. Yeah, I've know about the selection for quite a while (since December) but I hadn't told anyone except for the wife :)
For those that may not know the section, anyone can upload their photos on their website. Each day the editors pick 12 to show on their site and people vote on them. The top vote-getter for the entire month gets published in the next issue. But the editors at NGS also pick their favorite and these images get published much later (to match the issue/season I think). Mine is the editors' pick and the first image I uploaded. I have a second image being considered (bee on the water) for another issue (but not yet confirmed).
Have at it. It is fun to see the different images each day and to see what appeals to the masses and what does not.
The National Geographic is printed in 32 languages and has 8 million subscribers - definitely worth the effort

Thought I'd pass along some news - a special edition of National Geographic hit the newsstands yesterday. It can be found in the photography section of the magazine rack.
In addition to my Birds on a Wire image, they also published my Bee on the Water shot (pages 128 and 121, respectively).

Re: Congrats Loupey
Loupey! You just made history!!!!!!!! Well, that's just a tiny bit embelished. :)
At any rate, to make NG once is a lifetime experience! And something to talk about forever......but TWICE!
What can I say except CONGRATULATIONS!!!!
Wow! I'm wondering if this qualifies you to apply for a position as a staff photographer? Not many photographers get their photos into NG......it must be worth something!
This is one giant leap in your portfolio!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm proud of you Loupey! AWESOME!
Drum Roll: :7:

Re: Congrats Loupey
Liz - many thanks! Yes, we were/are quite excited about it. I had known about this special edition several months in advance so it was difficult to keep it a secret from everyone (except the wife who, turns out, can keep a secret:) ).
GB1 - I don't know if shooting more is what my friends and family want. I probably average 2 hours of shooting every day already :p
A.M.D.A. - thank you very much.
AgingEyes - thank you too!

Re: Congrats Loupey
Here is a short video (<3 minutes) by NGS Senior Editor Susan Welchman on how she chooses these photos: click HERE
Both of my images are on this video. So I received photo credits at the end of the video as well.
A staff member informed me that I was the only photographer to have two images in this issue.
But I had a good laugh when I finally got my copy as there is a photo-mosaic on pages 6 & 7 demonstrating the 351 photos that Susan had to wade through on December 16, 2008. That date sounded familiar to me so I took a long look at the mosaic and, sure enough, my image is in there too (column 5, row 9). That makes 3 - my first 3 submissions. The mosaic coincidence is funny because you can only submit one photo each month.
