Careful...

Re: Careful...
Interesting idea. I like the overall tone and I love the look on her face. I can't help but think that this would be improved if the background were black. What's really weird is the fact that the window light is shining through the candle stick next to her chin. I've never seen that happen before!

Re: Careful...
That's because the candle is out of focus, so it pretty much becomes transparent. :)

Re: Careful...
I see one to the left of that candle (forms a "V") that disappears at the top against the window for the same reason. Cool shot - centered can work!

Re: Careful...
Acme back to re-look this morning...I love the colors and the subject---I agree that the background is too distracting...cool concept though...what type of event was it

Re: Careful...
Thanks guys. This was during an assignment covering a Greek Orthodox Church, she was lighting the candles before entering the main chambers.

Re: Careful...
It's a wonderful photograph Seb.
Who was the assignment for?

Re: Careful...
Thanks Brian. It was for a local newspaper, they have a feature that spotlights community churches. I'm pretty much in church every Sunday now. :)

Re: Careful...
I like the shot. Her expression and the story is so good I don't care about the negs that are being pointed out.
Getting the right exposure for the candles and her face although shooting against the bright light is still a challenge for some of us including myself. Not for you obviously.
Nice!

Re: Careful...
Thanks Manacsa. The exposure is pretty simple. Just meter for the general conditions in the area, and you're set. There is no way to keep the bright candles from blowing out, so you just expose for the subject.
