    Canon 24-105 F4 L IS

    Hmmm...

A new lens to ponder. Sounds ok.

What do you think about this new lens due in September. See B&H

    Press Release

Here's a link to the press release for the 24-105mm IS lens: Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS and 70-300 f/4-5.6 IS - Press Release

I think it's an exciting lens. I only wish it was an f/2.8 lens. But it probably would have cost $1000 more and weighed a pound more. I recently got the Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 XR Di LD lens and I've really been enjoying it. It's the first non-Canon lens I've owned in about ten years and I'm very impressed. But a 24-105mm f/4 L lens with image stabilization is a very tempting all-purpose lens. It might be the ultimate mountain bike backpack lens.

    Re: Canon 24-105 F4 L IS

I'm in the process of getting the Canon 28-300mm USM IS f3.5 and possibly a 400mm as well. The 400 won't be the f2.8 but hey, it will work for most of what I need.

    Re: Canon 24-105 F4 L IS

Hi Kathy! Good to see you around.

I'm seriously pondering this lens too - for a number of reasons. However, if I get it, the price will force me to sell some of my lenses which is hard. I think it will be a long term commitment for me. However, I've always had a very slight camera shake problem, and loved the IS on my old 28-135, but wasn't 100% happy with the quality.

I'm looking for a nice walk around lens that I can use for indoor low light - Cathedral, museum, etc. My biggest reason is that I would like a zoom for street photography. This lens is both an "L" and IS - and a zoom, so I just may do all of the above to get it.

I found someone who got the lens (they were selling it in a few places - one store in Portland ME even though no one around here seems to know when the specific shipping date is (September).

Here is a link to some first "family snapshots" done by a new owner of this lens.
