Can I Be A Nikon Samurai Emeritus?

Although it's not final yet, it looks like I may have sold all of my Nikon gear...
Why have I sold it??
So I could purchase a new camera, one that Nikon no longer makes.
I am talking about a rangefinder.
I have been debating for months now what to do, shall I get a medium format camera, a rangefinder, keep what I have or what.
My photography has been evolving away from the bike stuff I have done in the past, so I no longer need a camera that shoots five frames a second or the various lens I have had.

So I am wondering if I can be a Nikon Samurai, but with emeritus status?

As much as I'd LOVE A LEICA! My pocketbook isn't that deep..
I am thinking of going with a Voigtlander Bessa R3A or R4A.

Interesting choice! You still have the option of using the Leica lenses without the rather heavy Leica camera body cost factor.

Mixing Japanese and Latin can be a tricky business. What I think you actually are now is a Nikon Ronin... :D

I have never even considered selling a Nikon. It just isn't done. But you might be forgiven if you would donate that Nikon equipment to a needy Samurai. I will forward my address.

Which is a good thing, but the auctions have already ended and I am collecting the money already.
It wasn't an easy decision, I am having my doubts about it even now, but I feel it is where my photography must go.
I guess Nikon is an anniversary edition Black Nikon SP 2005 Rangefinder, in a limited run of 2500. Read VERY EXPENSIVE, more than any Leica. I have read that it will retail somewhere in the $7000 range, I think it comes with one lens.
So can I be a Nikon Samurai, with emeritus status?

You have my vote however because I know someday you will come back from the dark side and enter the enlighten world of Nikon once again. Once a Samurai always a Samurai. And with an exulted # like 2 how could you be denied.

Now if you ever buy a Canon thingy, well, then you will be disavowed and a more worthy individual will be assigned your number. Until such time, you will be a Nikon Samurai Emeritus, and retain your Nikon Samurai number, which is the enviable # 2.

Yes Brian...don't buy the Canon thingy!! I did, and lost my ranking. :( My number is now closer to infinity than 1.

As for your rangefinder, you may want to look at M3 or M4. They run used on KEH for about $600-900, and they are so well built. Also a Mamiya 6 or 7 may also be an alternative. Look at ebay and you can always find a good deal on one of those rangefinders.

Good luck with the rangefinder and congrats on being a Nikon spirit.

I understand that Nikon makes a new range fidner, actually it is an anniversarry edition of their first rangefinder, the s2 I think. They are only making 2500, which means one thing, it will cost LOTS of money...
I have heard it will be in the $5K to $6K range, with one lens.

Which is something of a minor tragedy, since I remember when you were shooting with a N80 and I was SO envious when you got your F5. If you hadn't forsaken your beloved Nikons, you would have undoubtedly have had a single digit number. Still, # 22 isn't bad.

On a related, but different subject, that has nothing to do with me changing systems.
For those of you who were linking the Nikon Samurai logo from me. You'll need to find a new way to link it. I am no longer with the ISP that the logo was on.
