    Cameron and my new D70s

Cameron's a cat. Sorry. He's a good test subject. What can I say.

This is one of the first shots from my new D70s that I really like. Having done only B&W film for the past 8 months, I'm very pleased with the high ISO capabilities of this camera...and I'm also still hooked on B&W. This was shot at 800 ISO.

Nice tonal range! What color is he? Orange and white?

Thanks! He's very light colored, kind of beige and white. This was my first attempt at using the channel mixer to do a B&W conversion. I was pleased to see the flexibility that method provides.

Enjoy the low noise with that camera! Using the channel mixer to make B&W conversion on camera's with more noise only enhances the noise. I don't know all the terminologies for the differnt types of noise, but if you look at one channel, all the pixels that are heavy on that color get really bright (or dark?) and seriously increase the amount of grain. It's very discouraging for me when trying to make B&W's with the channel mixer.

Nice convertion. I really like the rim light effect around the ears. It makes the whole image kind of pop and stand out. Nice job. Great camera I hope you will like it as much as I have my D70 the last couple of years.
Don't forget about the Gallery. Are your photos there??

    BM, AV, OT,

    Lots of abbreviations here.

Thanks for the comments, guys. The backlighting turned out better on this shot than some previous attempts. I learned that less is more.

I'm still finding new reasons to like the D70s, and I'm excited to be able to participate more on this site. Scanning film on my flatbed was just too much trouble for the mediocre results I got. Plus it was a slow process. Now I can react fast enough to participate in the photo projects and such.
