"But honey, schrackman and Greg McCary made me do it!"

My response to my girlfriend saying, "Another camera?"...LOL I couldn't resist after seeing the shots you guys were getting with this little guy. The D50 and Nikkormat aren't exactly compact, so it will be nice to have a little camera to carry around. Ended up getting this on Ebay for only $29 shipped! Meter works and everything. You guys weren't kidding when you said it was a "primitive" metering system. I need to go through and replace the seals sometime over the next couple of days then it will be time to go out and play. Can't wait

canon, eh? Glad you made the first step of coming to the ...white? side. I guess nikon is the dark side, as the L's are in fact much brighter.

LOL... yeah, I thought about editing out all the Canon logos and replacing them with Nikon. Does this mean I lose my Samurai badge?

Thanks guys I just wish the case was still in good condition. The leather is flaking off it pretty bad but, the flash looks like it was never used. Do you guys know where I can get some spare batteries for this? I checked Radio Shack but, they didn't have that size. schrackman, you got me wanting badly to try some Velvia too. Was bidding on some yesterday but, got sniped at the last second

Walgreens Zink Air 675 hearing aid batts. Wedge it in with aluminum foil. My meter overexposes one stop with them. So if you use 100 ISO set the camera for 200 ISO.
Ray, I have ordered some Ilford film.

Like I tell the kids in class, good photography comes from the space behind the eyes and in between the ears, the camera is the tool to make it happen, just pick the one that fits. That's a cool little hammer you have there, er, I mean camera. I 've got an old Olympus RC35 and Konica C35 that I may just dust off to see if they still work.

Thanks Greg. No Walgreens nearby but, I'll check CVS and see if they have 'em

Very true about the eyes MJS. I bought this more to fill a desire for a compact camera to shoot with combined with the fact the several members have these so I have people I can turn to if I have questions.

man if only sports photography worked like that. I've actually been reading a book called sportscape, the evolution of sports photography. pretty interesting stuff, old sports photography used to be much different than what it has developed into now. Just think about sports photography without telephoto lenses!

I have watched old baseball films where the photog would run out to homeplate and snap one during the game......

Try vintagebatteries.com. You then won't have to worry about over or under exposure.

schrackman, you got me wanting badly to try some Velvia too.
I haven't tried Velvia yet...been wanting to, though. Kodak Elite Chrome 100 (or 400 for that matter) works great with the Canonet. You won't be disappointed. I took two rolls of 100 to Hume Lake last year.

This first photo I had put the Canonet on a tripod and set the self timer. It doesn't look like it but I had to run pretty fast to get posed in the frame with my wife without shaking up the dock!

I don't know why but, I had it in my head that you had used Velvia for the "colorful" shot I just double checked that thread and I wasn't even close. Wow, I need to start sleeping more

Any chance we can play "Stupid Questions Time" for a second? What is the difference between slide film and print film? If I use slide film am I going to have any problems if I want to get prints made?

Print film is negative film - when the film is processed, you get negatives which are used for printing (or more likely, scanning and then printing). "Neg" film has more exposure latitude, meaning that in high contrast lighting you have a better chance of holding both highlight and shadow detail. This may not always be what you want, however.

Slide film gives you slides (you probably figured that out... ) Less exposure latitude but amazing colors. Slides can be scanned for print making but be warned that this leads to all kinds of time spent in front of the computer obsessing over details. There was a darkroom process for making prints from slides (Ilfochrome or Cibachrome) but it's not very likely you'll find anyone who does it anymore. I had one made in Chicago several years ago and it was very expensive - and I don't prefer it to good quality digital print, either. Bottom line, you can make prints but it will take time.

Cool camera - I have one myself but I don't think anyone believes me because I haven't posted shots from it. Unfortunately I can't scan until I get around to getting the computer it's connected to (SCSI device) up and running again. But you'll see... I have bought Wein Zinc-Air batteries from B&H before and they work well but don't last very long, which is the nature of that type of battery.

i was never totally impressed with the colors I got from positive film, but I may have just gotten a bad batch. My professor thought so too.

Thank you very much for your help guys I ended up ordering from vintagebatteries.com as they were having a sale. Just starting to clean up the old seal gunk right now so hopefully should be able to start shooting with it tonight or tomorrow
