    Buckey Lake RC Aerial Photography

Here are some pictures I took at the lake with my RC Plane and a 4mp Pentax PS. A lot of grain due to the lighting.

Nice work - how do you fire the camera shutter?

Is that you standing behind the black truck looking up?

Camera on the plane? Cool! I'm also curious how you fired the shutter. Thinking of another application...

he has posted other shots from his planes and said that he rubber bands the shutter right before take off then just lets it fire away .... deletes the bad shots and keeps the good ones ...

I was wondering if that is him by the black truck also

I just put the camera on continuous shoot mode, put a rubber band around the shutter and fire away. A 1 gig card brings 3 to 4 shots. Wich is plenty, I only take 150 to 200 a flight. I also can and am setup to use a servo to set it off. I'll post a picture of my plane.

It's a shame that a live view on a monitor is so power hungry at the camera end.

I think he means the lcd screen on the back. It eats batteries

Some PS have a video output which you can feed a transmitter. Then you have the TV receiver unit and a video monitor. The transmitters I know of are power hungry and weight allot which means a bigger plane and battery.

How big a plane would I need for my d80 and oh...lets say a Sigma 50-500?

That's cool, Tyson, and I bet you have a lot of fun. Now if only you could fly it over Indianapolis.

Most DSLR users use a RC Helicopter with a gas motor, I am not joking it can and is done. Alot of those car commercials are done with a RC Heli and a small movie camera. When they follow the car then go over top of it to the other side, thats a RC heli.

Re: Buckey Lake RC Aerial Photography

A good sized RC Helicopter can cost more than a late model used car, I've heard some could go as high as $14,000. But that was about 20 years ago. I can think of a lot of items I need more than a RC Helicopter, most of them lenses, cameras, machine tools, {on and on, an endless list}.

No kidding, always wondered about that. I figured a "real" helicopter would be way too expensive to use, by the time you count sitting around and waiting for the right light as you're paying by the hour...

have you tried pointing the camera straight down instead of to the side? I'd be interested to see what kind of difference that would make with the images.

The only problem with the 2.4Ghz ones they have directional antennas and weak signal strength.
