I've been mumbling to myself about the brakes on my Roadster for ages, and thinking how much it was going to cost to fix it.
I knew what the problem was, the speed sensor rings on the axle fail with time. But that means new reluctor rings, take the rear drive shafts off, clean them, remove the rings, fit new ones, refit on the car ...
It's only 8 years old and the rings were all rusted up and split, making the ABS computer think the wheel wasn't going round for a split second each revolution Braking even in the dry gave me a juddering pedal and the brrp noise of the ABS pump and valves working overtime.
But then a friend pointed out they're all the same on the ForTwo and Roadster it's the same engine, gearbox, suspension, driveshafts so why not swap and put on the sets from the half dismantled fortwo donor car?
An hour's work this morning and they were swapped, and it's fixed all the problems.
Here's the old broken one.
