    Bird Feeder Bandit
These little guys will go to no end of trouble to raid my bird feeders - so I made one jus for them,so far they've been pretty good about going to their feeder -- now if I could just get the birds to understand the difference

Aaron... a bunch of "squirrel proof" bird feeders are made, but only a few work.

One spins with weight and THROWS thew squirrel off ;)

Another if the wight on the platform is too heavy it drops down and closes off the holes where the seed is ;)

Squirrel will love you if you just give them peanuts with the shell on still. Buy a BIG bag of them and try to train them to take them from your hand ;)

    Nice image BTW.

Yep, that's what I have. Ironically, the motion of the birds landing and taking off from the feeder platform throws a lot of the food out onto the ground, where the squirrels just go gobble it up anyway.

But at least the birds aren't bothered by the squirrels on the feeder itself...

Oh these guys aren't too much trouble, besides they seem to be addicted to sunflower seeds. I put out peanuts in the shell, and the Blue Jays love them, squirrel ignores'em. I put up a squirrel only corn cob feeder thingy - squirrel ignored it -- moved it where squirrel would have to trip over it on the way to bird feeder ---- squirrely pushed it out of the way to ge to the sunflower seeds. Gave up, built it it's own feeder table with sunflower seeds - now it wants a table cloth and a napkin???? :)

    It is a nice image!

And you can train them to eat out of your hand. I had one in college that would do that. Never "tamed" him by any means, and never tried to touch him, but he would eat cookies out of my hand.

Silver Service -that's it, I knew I forgot something!

They really are great fun to watch - I had one as a baby once, raised it by hand and then turned it loose in a neighbors big back yard where it could stay when I went on off to college. They can become quite friendly, but still retain the wariness of the wild.

My other backyard rodent is a field mouse that thinks he's a lifeguard at the bird bath!
Not a real good photo but you can see the varment peering over the edge of "pond'.
