I would have said Mainz from the look of the square and the statue, but I can't place the castle so I am probably wrong!

Correct, Heidelberg - that's the remains of the schloss up on the hillside.
I thought that would give it away.

    These are from Mainz ...

Sprechen Sie Deutsch? I want to go to Germany. Or should I say "Ich möchte zu Deutschland gehen."

    Re: where in Germany ...

Well that makes sense SW, it was 1971 and it (the schloss) has changed a lot since then from what i remember. Time hasn't been kind to it!
we went through a couple, one in the Black forest, I think it was Crazy King Ludwig's schloss.
We spent most of our time around the Mettmann and Bad Salzuflen (sp?) and a couple other towns in that area as we have relatives who still live there. The one family has lived on the family farm for almost 250 years, in the same house (and yeah, the barn IS attached. It was damaged in WWII but easily repaired following the war. In Mettmann the family there has owned a bakery until a few years ago for 300 years, and the family tree goes back 400 years (original copy thats been added to over that time!) They still live in the same house and same street all those years. It's definately a different society, one that is not as mobile as ours is.
