    Ballhead Adapters/Converters - HELP!
    Hey Guys,

I just purchased a 484 Bogen ballhead for my Slik Pro 700DX tripod. I have removed the 3-way panhead from the tripod and the center column has a 1/4" female thread which is inset about 3/8" from the top of the center column; the ballhead has a 3/8" female thread. What do I need to attach this ballhead to my tripod? The one or two adapters I found at B&H Photo wouldn't work as the 1/4" male thread of the 1/4" - 3/8" adapter doesn't protrude far enough to hit the female thread of the center column.

    Thanks!

Troy, I also just bought a Bogen Ballhead for my Slik Pro.. they wouldn't even talk to each other! I had to buy the Bogen legs (3130). It's a fantasitic setup, especially the ball head which is like a joystick and can turn evrery degree. The only complaint is the weight once you attatch the Bogen head to the Bogen legs. Dang, I'm not use to that. I'm use to the Slik which is very light.

Trying to picture exactly what you're looking for - maybe a thread adapter but a little longer than the one you've got? Try a good hardware store (ie not home center). The two threads should be very common sizes, 1/4-20 and 3/8-16.

If i was at school, with a machine shop i'd make it for 20 bucks, no problem. Since I am not, head to a shop near you. Chances are good they can make it in an hour or less. I'd probably use a mild steel that works easily. 1/4 is small but you might get away with aluminum. Bring your gear if you find a machine shop, which you can probably look up the yellow pages.
