The baddest Mustang on the planet.....Reno
Re: The baddest Mustang on the planet.....Reno
Beautiful. The light really adds to it. But how did you get in at sunrise? Events round here don't open till 10am and the light is a problem more than a solution.
Re: The baddest Mustang on the planet.....Reno
I'm press. The gates open at 7AM, I think, and there are ways to get in without press before sunrise. There is a gate that is open 24/7 in the pits.
Re: The baddest Mustang on the planet.....Reno
I was expecting to see a Pony car, the surprise is great though. nice planes.
Re: The baddest Mustang on the planet.....Reno
I think that first one you hit out of the park, it's GREAT!! I give it   , Jeff
Re: The baddest Mustang on the planet.....Reno
...or above the planet possibly! Very nice.
Re: The baddest Mustang on the planet.....Reno
You guys can have your mustangs, I'll take that Lavochkin any day!
For those who don't know planes - the radial engine "RareBerd" in shots 2,3, & 4, is a Russian LA-7 fighter plane from the end of WW2.
Beautiful photos, all of them!

Huh?? Shots 2 and 3 are Rear Bear, an American Grumman F8F Bearcat with a Wright R-3350.
#4 is the P-51 Voodoo's canopy.
Re: The baddest Mustang on the planet.....Reno
WOW, very nice shots.
I really like the 4th one.
James

Wow, I stand corrected! That's amazing though, even after studying it for a bit there are very few clues to tell the difference - the tail is a bit more squared off at the top as are the wingtips and the canopy is custom so it's hard to judge by that, but everything else is amazingly similar, from the cowl to the exhaust plates to the wing intakes to the gear/doors.
Learn something new every day :)

Beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
Re: The baddest Mustang on the planet.....Reno
Very nice shots Tim! I was wondering if you made it out there this year. We had great weather for the races.

Wondering??? Unless I'm dead, I'll be in Reno for nine days every year.
Re: The baddest Mustang on the planet.....Reno
If you ever make it down to the other end of the field, by the Heritage/Military Displays.....stop by and say hello. I am normally there for 7+ days. The first couple of days, I'm in the hanger helping to get things ready...then they let me out into the booth...LOL. Glad to hear that you make it every year, its a great event.
Re: The baddest Mustang on the planet.....Reno
I gotta go with the Red Tail. Nice Stock P51-D. Nothing chopped or customized. The way God, and North American Aviation meant it to be!
Cadillac of the Skies.

Look close, that airplane is no where near stock, not even close.
IMHO, the best looking Mustangs are the ones cut up for racing. Give me clipped wings and turtle decks!!

The most obvious are the clipped wings at the factory break, you can't see the scoop, but it's custom carbon fiber and about 1/3rd the stock size, it has a full blown race Merlin engine, the wings are extended into the fuselage, the coolant door is modified, the canopy is lower profile than stock, the rudder has no trim tab, there are many more changes under the skin. It's about 150mph faster than a stock Mustang.

That's Rare Bear, an F8F Bearcat in both pics, a whole lot bigger than a GeeBee.
Pretty easy to get prop blur with a 15 second exposure. :)

Fantastic shots, it is obvious that a lot of love goes into the aircraft and also the photos of them.
