Anyone in Ontario interesting in a photogathering?

After seeing the posts of the photogatherings in other locals I was wondering if anyone in my area would be interested. I have so much to learn and I find that working next to someone who has more experience reduces the learning curve as hands on learning is so much faster than trial and error.

I have thought about a decent location and the best plac eI can think if in the Toronto Area is one of 2 places. Edwards Gardens ( http://www.toronto.ca/parks/parks_ga...dwardsgdns.htm ) where it is mostly gardens and water falls and such to shoot OR at the Brickyards in the Don Valley ( http://www.lostrivers.ca/BrickWorksPark.htm ) The brickyard offers old urban decay as well as gardens and wildlife and a watercourse that was created out of an old shale/clat quarry adn turned into a wetlands area. I have been to both locations on walks with my family and I have a ton of fun shooting at both places. Unfortunately I haven't yet been to Edwards Gardens since I bought my Camera so no new images form there.

If anyone is interested post what days / evenings / times are best and I will try and schedule somehting for teh majority of posters.

which campus are you attending?? I grew up on the big York campus.. my mom was the secretary to the Dean of Computer Sciences.

Theres some awesome natural settings around York as well as some of the architecture on campus as well. Not sure if thats the one you're going to. Near Keele and Finch?

and about the camera ... lol.. thanx... you too.

I'll be attending the campus by Keele and Finch. I really like Toronto, it's actually where I bought my camera 2weeks ago when I had to go to some orientation for school. Toronto's got a good vibe about it and it has tons of places to take some good photos.

When were you thinking of doing this gathering?

Re: Anyone in Ontario interesting in a photogathering?

Probably about a week from now if there's enough interest. I was thinking of anyday from the 31st of Aug to the 3rd of Sept (last weekend of summer before the kiddies go back) The weekdays are better for there being less people but any of those days are good for me. Failing that any weekend after that I am pretty much open for as well.

I have another friend outside the board that might want to go back to either location with me. Both locations are easy to find off the TTC but I have a large enough vehicle to meet up with about 7 others if need be to shuttle to the locations form the nearest station also.

If you are on Campus there .. theres a really nice little valley just east of campus where Black Creek runs through (or at least a tributary of it) that I spent a lot of fime in as a kid. Tons of stuff for you to shoot down there. Also on the eastern edge of campus behind Osgoode there's a pond and waterfall that they were just building the last time I was there.. if I remember corectly that would be some nice sujbect matter also.

Count me in (the last weekend doesn't work for me as I'm at a convention in Toronto).

But the Brickworks, I can show how to get inside the abandoned sections of the buildings.

All depends when you go, last time I went saw no one around, quick hop over the fence and bam in.

I would sneek away, but I will be dressed in costume of a Stargate SG team member, and as cool it would be to waltz around Toronto dressed as such, I would probably get undue attention from the cops. ^_^

Re: Anyone in Ontario interesting in a photogathering?

And in the News today a member of a photography review website was arrested today, while wearing a paramilitary uniform which authorities have yet to identify. H ewas attempting to take pictures in a cordoned off area of a parkland owneed and operated by the Weston Family famous for Westons Bakery. Authorities claim that he was trying to steal the secrets of the ancient bread baking strategies and sell them to raise money for his camera addiction. More on the 11 o'clock news.

I didn't know there was a Stargate convention in town. Kewl. Anyway I am off for a couple of days to head north to Bracebridge and throw my kids in the lake. Upon my return I will work on setting an actual date for a meeting. Looking like the second weekend in September (9 or 10th) is looking good for me and at least 2 others. Lets drum up some more support and have some fun.

I was just reminded (actually beaten about the head for forgetting) that my wifes birthday party is that weekend. Although the party is on only one of the days.. I will need the following day to recover form the copious amounts of intoxicants which usually accompany an open bar.

So how does the date of Saturday the 16th sound to everyone?

Hi, Just curious if any one went to the C.N.E.? I was there yesterday and the nite lights are spectacular especially down by Ontario Place with the Chinese Latern festival going on. Would of taken pics but still waiting to purchase a digital camera.
    Thanks

We're taking my son down to see the lantern festival sometime this week. He's been BEGGING since the Festival of Fire when they had 2 lanterns lit for us to see. I will bring the camera and see what I can get. I'm not sure how to shoot Large lanterns at night though. Shoot them like fireworks? Should be a fun experiment.

Re: Anyone in Ontario interesting in a photogathering?

Going to the CNE friday for sure.. not sure if they allow in-and-outs so we're not sure how late we're staying. If they do allow it then we'll go out for dinner and then head back afterwards for some lantern shots... and a drowning of the 3 year old.. for fun of course =)

Now back to the matter at hand.

9th is out for me as stated above (death from wife for even dreaming of mising her party)
16-17 is bad for Pyxel as his parents are in town.
23-24 I will be out of town shooting teh Niagara Grape and Winde festival (or should I say .. setting the camera on auto and staggering around clicking things that teh aF says are in focus)

But back to the 10th. I have been given a reprieve from teh wife as long as I am a good boy on the 9th I can go on the 10th. So since all I have to do is chace the little ones for the day and keep them out of her hiar to qualify as being good (that and dazzle her with her present) I can guarantee that I am free on the 10th.

Elsewise we're waiting till October to meet up.

So how does Sunday September 10th fit into the scheduling?

I have room in my truck to pick up everyone (room for 7+me) at a central location and make the trek to the brickyard from there. I will bring my laptop if anyone needs/wants to see there pics on a screen at anytime. There will also be room for everyone's gear if they pack light and a small cooler for snacks if you should so desire. (sorry no beer.....unless you byob ) Please respond yay or Nay and I will either send out PM's with the contact information or attempt to find a better date.

Re: Anyone in Ontario interesting in a photogathering?

Well I missed seeing th eLanter Festival due to having 3 kids under 5 all tired out from a day at the ex. But I came up with a thought.

The Lantern Festival would produce MUCH nicer pics than the brickyard.. and we can go ANY evening until Oct 1st. The BIG difference is that the Admission to the brickyard is free .. for the festival I believe it is grounds admission od $12 or$15.

I am going down one evening this week with my wife for a wander (we're gonna find a sitter I believe) But any evening at all would work for a gethering and we dont necessarily have to wait for a weekend.

    Any thoughts?

Sorry for taking so long getting this organized. Things have been hectic around here the past few weeks and I have barely had time to shoot let alone think about a get together. If anyone has any ideas or can make a specific time post it here and I will review it over the weekend.

Sorry for not posting lately, I've been overwhelmed with school work and other things to do, like finding a place to live.

I am free whenever on the weekends, we just need to set a date and a place where we can all meet up. There are interesting spots to shoot anywhere in the city, all we'd have to do is go with the flow!
