Well, you're not missing anything. We've been here for 2 years now. Although Reseda appears to be the same, neighboring Northridge is very much improving with new stores and housing. Canoga Park is also improving with expanding Westfield Shopping malls.

You're shots are great by the way. Such clarity. What's your preferred lens and do you do alot of post work on your shots?

    Re: Reflections

    Rick,

I agree with Mark, to be honest. I think people really responded here. It was (is) an incredibly great idea you had there Bro!

The reason I'm suggesting this is personal.......I have had virtually no opportunities to go out and do a photo shoot with the exception of Fleetweek for 3 hours. My new lens has been sitting there since I bought it. Your 24 hour idea was the catalyst for me to use my camera, and have a lot of fun. The best part was that I didn't have to come up with a technically perfect picture. I'm a perfectionist especially with photography - it's my artwork. Therefore I tend to not use my camera unless I have the time to create a small masterpiece (just kidding - but you get the idea). This does not effect my "need" to do good photography, but it did brighten my day just to get my hands around that camera and push that shutter button.

OK - I had a friend who used to say "when it seems like there are only 2 choices, or just a yes or no answer to a situation, always look for a 3rd alternative." So here is just a thought! I'll be happy with whatever - and try to go out on my own more often.

You might consider trying it once a month for a while. If it seems like people get tired of it, then discontinue it for a season, or 6 months.....or whenever the spirit moves you.

Also, it is time consuming for you because you follow through on everything and you make sure people are encouraged when they participate. However, I think everyone responded so well, that you wouldn't have to be too concerned if you were off that week - or whatever.

This was a really great fun project Rick. And whether we do it more often, or not doesn't matter. What matter is what happened this past week - which IMO was great! I had a lot of fun. I think it was an encouragement for people who don't always post pictures, to just do it - great photography or not. So thanks!

    Liz

You're not going to get 1000 posts of fine photography, but you will get posts from all over from people who took their camera out but would not neccesarily post any of their pics, and people like me who got the camera out just to shoot something to post here.
I think once a month would be perfect!!!

Thank you Rick, the camera feels good in my hands.

The monthly photo project doesn't seem to be losing steam. I think because this is less structured it will continue to get a strong response. I know it will from me!

I know I am rarely stuck for something to do, in fact, days are simply not long enough to get done everything I want to get done.

The 'Squeeze me in' of a new idea is a terrific impetus governer for me and if you tell me I have three hours, to capture some red, white and blue, three things, three hours, the challenge will not be let to lie alone in conceptuality. I will darn well try and do it and thank you for the inspiration to focus and guide me. I want that challenge. If I dont make it, well, I will sulk and get better prepared for next time around, I never lose twice.... Once a mponth sems a long time between things to do, but with my schedule for life itself, maybe just enough time.. sigh..

I appreciate hearing everyone's feedback on this. Let's hear some more opinions!

Is once a month too often?
Do you prefer once a season?

If you have an opinion, please voice it!

    Thanks,

Yes. Making it seasonal will give the project a built in theme although never a requirement. Plus it is something to look forward to.

Re: Another 24 hours! Saturday June 3

Do the shots I posted on the first page of this thread seem too dark? I am seeing a big difference in them between my home and work computers. I would like to try to figure out if my home pc is set too bright or my work computer is not bright enough. Both need to be calibrated

    Thanks for your help.

    A ha...

    How about,
    1) A seasonal Fest, something to look forward to and to plan for.
    2) A separate Monthly Fest, more spontaneous {sp}, less time to plan, less time to present, more rigid, greater challenge perhaps.
    3) A third quickie fest, 7 days notice, very tight on deadline, very tight on descriptive interpretation and a totally different kind of shoot.
    4) Ad hoc like :-
    a) What is thirty miles from your front door
    b) Capture number 1 thro 9 and make a single picture containing all 9 elements
    c) Someone selling something, someone buying something (different things of course)
    d) Bird
    e) Waves
    f) Antenna's
    g) a musician
    h) The base of a landmark?
    i) A child, crying
    j) Law Enforcement
    k) Reflections
    l) Smaller than a Dollar Bill, £5.00 note
    m) weighing in above 500 lbs
    N) wearing Red, White and Blue
    o) Three
    p) Water
    q) falling
    r) Speed
    s) Night
    t) Flight
    u) Kitchen Counter
    v) In the Box
    w) Fence
    x) Forever
    y) Insect
    z) Photographing someone photographing you, both Pictures

And for those who are real dey-villes for punishment, send a raw image to each other, and Photoshop it (or equivalent on other systems), present it in a new light and have it compared to the original... Complicated, Nah, just imaginative.

Now you see why I would be no good at running things, I have too much fun thinking.......

Thanks. My preferred lens is the Sigma 70-300mm that came as a combo with the 28-80mm zoom macro lens at Canoga Camera for only around $200 or so. I have noticed, however, that I am really in need of a much faster lens for indoor photography, which I've been doing a lot of lately. Maybe a 2.8, but these can get a bit pricey.

The amount of post processing I do really depends on the lighting conditions. For all the shots I posted on this thread I didn't have to do anything other than add a bit of sharpening and a tad of saturation to the little boy picture. I wish all my photos were like that. :cryin:

What I find so amazing about this animal in particular, compared to the others, is the life and movement put into it. No one, but no one, looked at anythimg but its face.
