The wife and I went into town this morning to catch the big doin's. Today was the annual Doo Dah Parade, Kalamazoo Institute of Arts Festival, Public Library used book sale, and Greek Festival. We got there around 9:30 and stayed till about 1. Here are a few

    Hey John,

I'm glad we got this figured out. I was about to say that my favorite was the maracas shot, but it seems to have disappeared in the transition

    Thanks again for playing!

    Peaches & Herb, baby!!
Went back to the Cherry Festival Carnival to get some shots of the Temptations and Peaches and Herb. Of course this Peaches is the not the original Peaches but had a beautiful voice nevertheless. They were a LOT of fun to watch perform.

These were shot with my Digital Rebel & Sigma 300mm lens and a tad of fill flash from my 550EX.

Keep your eyes opened. This has been popular enough that I think it will be a semi-regular event.

There is also a monthly photo project forum here that you could play along in.

    Kizz,

Any pictures that you took yesterday between midnight and midnight count. So you can still participate if you have any.

And Dan is right, we are going to make this a seasonal project. So look for another one in the fall time - I'm guessing around October 7. Then the next would be in January or February I'm guessing. I'll be looking for your pictures then!

Cool. I checked my drives, Friday I did some highway bridge shots, then Saturday we had a lazy day, just doing stuff, then today, Sunday I have been photographically busy. So I did not take any yesterday. (I did process some in Photoshop, but I don't think that would count..)
So, I am looking at composing something for 'Plant Life' and will submit there soonest.

A police officer referred to me as 'pond life' * so I was going to send a 'self portrait', but then I re-read, and you want Plant Life, not Pond Life, Sigh.....

I've stopped crying now, had a long deep bubble bath and my hair is now in a towel with more moisture than I can handle on the inside of my glasses so I am going to take a break.. Catch y'all later.

    Reflections
As I was walking in the desert Saturday night looking for a place to take sunset pictures for the project, I found myself thinking about the 24 Hours process and everything involved. Here are my thoughts:

Reflection 1: This project wouldn't have been possible without everyone involved. The diversity of people and lives we saw on these days is what made these days successful. Each thread had its own character. Having different people shooting, and having people shooting different things, gave each day its own feel. The weekend shots certainly carried a different feel for me than the weekday shots. I expect I will make the Fall 24 Hours a weekend day, so people can travel a bit if they want to show off their surroundings. The Winter 24 Hours will be a weekday, since the winter is more of an "inside" season, full of family, warmth and fireplaces. Unless, you live in Phoenix :D So thanks to everyone who participated. You made this project work!

Reflection 2: Digital photography was made for a project like this. Wouldn't you agree? The post-as-you-go aspect of these projects wouldn't have been possible without digital technology. In fact, it almost seems digital was made for a project like this. How fulfilling it was to be able to share moments almost instantaneously with others. And how fulfilling to be able to put our digital gear to good use with a project such as this! Let's all say thanks to the Camera Gods for bringing us digital photography!

Reflection 3: I am hooked. I find myself wishing I could post events from my days now in a 24 hours thread. I miss not being able to share my day in a stream-of-consciousness-like format. When the first 24 hours were underway, I found myself refreshing the thread constantly hoping someone, anyone, was going to post a new series or shot! Judging by the number of views this thread racked up (over 1000 in 4 short days) I assume others were as hooked as I. I am looking forward to the next 24 hours and I hope that you are too. I'll see you in the fall!

ps: this is not a "closing" to this or the other thread. I expect to see more!

    Re: Reflections
Well Rick, there's another option...or two

    1) when you do the next 24 hours PR, do it the same way - 24 hours during the week AND 24 hours on the weekend.

    or

    2) do it more often.......like once a month. Sounds cool to me.

Afterall you're the one who got us addicted!

Liz, do you think doing it once a month would make it less special? I'm afraid of making it too commonplace and thereby reducing the draw of it.

Remember, the rest of the world only does it once a year :D

I suppose it's what you want to make of it Rick.
You're not going to get 1000 posts of fine photography, but you will get posts from all over from people who took their camera out but would not neccesarily post any of their pics, and people like me who got the camera out just to shoot something to post here.
I think once a month would be perfect!!!

Thank you Rick, the camera feels good in my hands.
