    Advice on sale payment...Paypal? or......
    Need advice please.......

I'm selling a lens to someone who emailed me after reading that I was selling a 200mm lens. He suggested Paypal, but said it might not be worth it for me to go through the whole process for one sale. He offered to send me a cashier check or money order first, but I don't feel quite comfortable about that. What if he doesn't like the lens? What is the best way to make a deal work?

I used Paypal once and there is still $18 floating around there somewhere that I could never figure out how to get back (I can't recall why I overpaid something). So, if there is a SIMPLER method....please let me know. He's giving me exactly what I asked which I believe is a fair price - plus shipping/insurance.

I use paypal all the time - in fact I have a debit card that I use with my paypal account! I can then use my paypal account to bill clients, the money goes in there and I use my depit card (with visa logo, so its a check card I guess) for all my online purchases!

Go for the money order/cashier check and send him the item when it clears. Paypal has more security holes than a.. uh... uh... leaky security hole thingie. My nephew's card numbers were stolen from Paypal twice. All he got from paypal was a form letter stating "oops, mean old hackers hit us. So sorry." Of course, staying with them after the first hit wasn't too bright. There have been many lawsuits, the the last I know of was settled for $9 million. Can you guess that I have no love for Paypal?

Liz, I've never had a problem with Paypal. I use it quite a bit and when I get some money built up in the account, I have them (snail) mail me a check. That way they don't have my bank account numbers. There is a small fee here and there, but I feel it's worth it.

I also don't let money sit in there for too long because I have heard of problems like what Michael is referring to. Interesting reading here: http://www.paypalsucks.com/

If you do this with Paypal, then once the money is transferred to you go to "Withdrawl". Several options show up, including the one I use for requesting a check by mail. That way you can still get your $18 back too.
