Taking advantage of the late afternoon, golden sunlight. This is my baby girl. Well, not so much a baby anymore. She just turned 17 last month. It seems like only yesterday I was taking her to the parks and playgrounds. Where does the time go?

Still playing with my 50mm manual prime. I usually waste a shot before I figure out what setting I fat fingered.

Re: 50mm f/1.8 Lens War Thread

Well I figure it's about time I chimed in on this. My lens is a Pentax SMC f2.0. It's not a 1.8, but its the best I have. I used mine on my Olympus E-500 via an adapter ring. On the average DSLR the 50mm works out to 75-80mm, however, due to the 2x efective crop of 35mm lenses on my E-500 it works out to aprox. 100mm. I hope this is ok.

    Anyway here they are:

    f2.8, 1/80. Window light.

    f16, 1/4000. Natural light.

I used this lens pretty much exclusively at the Jars of Clay concert last night and came off with some impressive shots.

I've been staring down this thread for a while and finally decided to post some of my 50mm shots from a jaunt around Lincoln over the winter. It also reminds me that I need to keep that little bugger on my camera more often!

The Nebraska capitol building. While the photo may suggest otherwise, visitors are quite welcome. However, the construction company completing renovations on the building does not want you to steal their equipment.

Re: 50mm f/1.8 Lens War Thread

I have a senior in high school and my wife wanted me to take a couple of shots in his cap and gown so she could print them off on paper and wrap them around candy bars to give out. So I took a bunch of pictures all over the house using different backdrops and lighting going through the various poses. He caught me by surprise with this one. It is unfortunate that I didn’t’ get both his hands in the frame but this is the one that will probably make the cover of the candy bar.

Great concert shots. I am finding the 50mm f/1.8 lens to be a great lowlight lens. I got to see these guys and Third Day while working as Stage Security chaperoning a church youth group. Still got the T-Shirt that says STAGE SECURITY. Thanks for bringing back a memory or two.

Here's the reason I got the old Pentax lens.

I think the focus is still a little off in my right eye, but self portraits can be frustrating that way.

I think you did a great job. Great lighting and the focus is actually very good.
I am still yet to get a half decent SP.

Until then here's a pic of my little pink cutie

These are great shots, Axle, especially the last one.

    Awww that's gorgeous MW.
May I suggest something before you send it to print please?
His face looks a little grey.
Try a little auto contrast. It will lift the highlights on his face

Thanks Alison I'll give that a try. I appreciate the tip. Wow just a little tweaking on the contrast as you suggested made a big improvement. Feel free to chime in anytime. I printed this as a 5x7 with a B&W Mat and it looks great framed. I plan on giving it to my son and his wife. And yes I printed one for myself. btw it was your post that convinced me to by the 50mm lens. No regrets there. Thanks Again.

    A party dress

yeah, we are already saving for braces....she had an extra baby tooth, and it pushed everything over. But I love her expressions, and the smile makes me love them more. This was her fancy dress for formal night on the cruise.

My first DSLR which I received today, an EOS 400D with a 50/1.8 lens. Best camera I ever used before this one was a D600 camera phone.

I just got my Canon 50mm 1.8 from J&R through amazon. The Nikon lens is $109 brand new from them.

Re: 50mm f/1.8 Lens War Thread

Thanks guys. The problem I was finding is the people who had them in stock were all the imported version and not the US version. Figured if I was going to buy new I might as well get the 5 year warranty as opposed to the 1 year or am I just being anal? I emailed both of those vendors to see which version they have. Thanks again guys
