Well a long time ago I said I'd post some photos from the 50mm F1.4 FD lens I have.

The film has been in the camera for 18 months, and probably been in the fridge for a similar amount of time. surprised anything came out. Its a Cheap Fuji ASA 200 film shot on a Canon AE1

Sent for processing to the cheapest place found and put on CD by them so quality is not great. That's all the excuses I have.

Very sunny day and no filters.

    First shot at F1.8
    Attachment 36223

    Second shot at F11/16
    Attachment 36224

Third shot at F1.4 1/1000 sec couldn't go any faster.

I love the dof on that lens, but I think your film has left a rather reddish cast on the images. Still, not too shabby I say. Perhaps you can shoot a roll of 24 exp. slide film. I'm betting you'll get some great images that way.

Nice! I almost didn't see that butterfly in the flower, but a second look caught it. I like the sign too, but what does it say? All I can read is "PENDAR...."

Thanks Ray. I never noticed that bug on that flower before, thanks for pointing it out!!! After blowing up the original, I can see it much better, but I can't identify it...

The sign is actually the back rest on an old wooden bench. It says PENDARVIS. Pendarvis is a Wisconsin State Historical site located a few blocks from where I live.

I'll start out with a couple of snaps taken at Ruby's Diner this afternoon and will probably add more later as others contribute. I probably could have composed these a little better, but I'm still in the experimental stage with this lens. :)

    Oh, settings were as follows:

    #1 - f/1.8, 1/60th, +1/3 EV, ISO 400
    #2 - f/1.8, 1/100th, ISO 400

Both photos utilized natural light and slight adjustments in PS.

That portrait is gorgeous indeed! I need to pick one of these 50mm lens.

I think its age of the film and not a good quality film either - from memory it was given to me for free after processing another film.

I have one more film which I just put in the camera and then I'll get some decent stuff to shoot with.

I would agree. 18 months in the camera is a long time, especially for cheap film, LOL. I'm beginning to worry about a roll of Kodak Elite 100 slide film I've had in my Canonet for the past two months. It's seen some heat and some cold. Since I have a 40mm f/1.7 lens on the Canonet, I think I'll finish shooting the rest of the roll at f/1.8 and above just to see how it comes out and compares to my 50mm even though they're different focal lengths.

lol, glad to have helped! I'm not that good at identifying butterflies either. Kinda hard to tell anyway with the photo the size that it is.

So I finally got around to buying one of these plastic do-hickies two nights ago. The first one is my test shot with a "known subject" that I took right after I got back from the store (ahem, please excuse the weird comp and lighting).

The second one from this morning.

My contribution. This was taken at a recent wedding I did. The cake, a white choc mud cake was taken at 1.8, 1/60th, 400ISO

This was the offerings to the bride. They are dangly things that guests give her to hang around her arm after the ceremony for luck. Beatiful arent they?

Love this thread...just shows you don't need 4 figure lenses to take nice shots. I've had my Canon Lens EF 50mm 1:1.8 II for years and it has served me well. I convinced two photog newbies last year into buying one and they enjoy it.

This shot was taken yesterday at San Pedro (as is w/o PS adjustments):

Camera Model Name: Canon EOS 30D
    Shooting Date/Time: 1/13/2007 17:03:19
    Tv(Shutter Speed): 1/500Sec.
    Av(Aperture Value): F6.3
    Metering Modes: Evaluative metering
    ISO Speed: 100
    Lens: EF50mm f/1.8
    Focal Length: 50.0 mm
