A Good Self Portrait a Week...
Last year I tried to do a self portrait a day, but couldn't keep up... sometimes life just hit like a tsunami. I would always "get back on the horse," though, and made some good images along the way.
This year I'm a little less ambitious in quantity, and more ambitious in quality. When I was attempting a self portrait a day, I didn't approach them so much as finished pieces as I did a page in a sketchbook... albeit it digital, online. With Francesca Woodman as my muse in absentia, I maintained a written, imaginary dialogue with her and reconstructed some of her photos as a launching pad to my own self portrait exploration. So this year, with all that under my belt, I'm going for a slower process, with a more polished result once a week.

Re: 2010 Annualism Plans?
Man a self-portrait every day would be hard. Even one a week. Once a month might be doable. That way I would only have to make twelve bad photos.
I suck at self portraits. Maybe when I get some better lighting...

Looks like Alison has started a blog that fits in this category nicely!
Good luck with the daily effort. It's easy for the first few months.

Thank you drg.
Today's is posted already
Re: 2010 Annualism Plans?
No shot-a-day plans, but last years New year's resolution was to learn lighting and I think I kept pretty true to that. So this year's project is to put together a real portfolio... a dozen killer shots that exemplfy my style and current ability. Got a bit of a jump start in December by beginning the process of story boarding the first few shots, which is a surpisingly large amount of work in itself, and is really forcing me to push myself creatively.
Re: 2010 Annualism Plans?
Amazing, isn't it? You start out "Oh, I'll just pull a few shots and print them up and voila..." and then you get into it and it's a heck of a lot of work. Good work, great experience, really affirming, but a lot of work! Good luck.
Re: 2010 Annualism Plans?
I am thinking I need to spend an hour a day just sorting this past years work and finding those 'lost' shots!

Amen! In an attempt to air some of my own dusty files from the past year I am going to post a photo a day on my new blog that I made just for the purpose. Less ambitious but within my grasp at the moment.

That is awesome, not a snap shot in the bunch. All great images.
Re: 2010 Annualism Plans?
I´m trying to make a "year long" hand study, I´m not trying to take a pic per day but to focus on that subject to complete a nice collection of hand photos of my own. So far I have 2 pics LOL I know I have to try harder :D

Happy to say I've managed to wrap up this resolution with a whopping 6 1/2 hrs to spare. Selection process started at the begining of last month. Narrowing things down from 600+ potential candidates to 100 was easier than I thought. Getting that down to 24 was surprisingly difficult. The local pro lab gave me the extra burst of energy needed to complete the task with a print sale this week; picked up the 11x17's just before closing time. Just need to assemble everything when the UPS man delivers the binding & inserts.

You should be proud of yourself your work has really taken off.
Re: 2010 Annualism Plans?
Thanks for this thread! I really need a boost to get back into doing more than snapshots. This past year has been a challenge in many ways, and my photography time has dwindled considerably. Life is interesting, that's for sure. Photography is the best remedy for me when times are tough, yet I procrastinate!
Last year I figured that a picture a day might be too much, and I thought I'd give it up quickly, so I didn't give it a chance. This year I am determined to take the challenge.
I still have to figure out what to "focus" on. I am enjoying the input here - and hope others will add to the discussion.

Re: 2010 Annualism Plans?
I post one photo a week on Facebook just to amuse my friends (I hope). Preferably it's an image I did in the week but some weeks are very dull
Christmas 2010 was just like Christmas 2009 - selecting and sorting my best photos to make something I can show. However the target has changed:
- last year it was 800x600 for my 5-inch screen ARCHOS organised by event (fashion shoot 1st April, fashion shoot 10th April..)
- now 2048x2048 that I can show on an iPad/ARCHOS 10i with instant zoom in on details
- my sets are now organised to show something specific. So I have a fashion-in-the-street set, a fashion-in-studio set, a fashion-in-bars set etc. It's rather like building a slideshow.
Re: 2010 Annualism Plans?
I think a Creative Idea a Day would be best (!)
That is, once a day jot down something wild, crazy, ridiculous, or imaginative. Could do it on a notepad or via computer.
