Did you hear that from anyone besides Sigma? Because as far as I know, the Sigma DP1 is still the only compact camera that is being designed around a digital SLR (APS-C) sized sensor. If there are others in the works, I want to know! Even the Canon G9 is using a tiny sensor.

Actually no, but I was tying it into the full-frame sensor movement, I should clarify that. Putting full-frame sensors in DSLR's and moving the APS-sized sensor down into p&S is the trend I am thinking here. But even more broadly, a movement making p&s cameras that are more "pro" has begun with cameras like the Nikon 5100 and continues today (imo) with the SD1 and to a lesser extent the Nikon P50.

Unfortunately, only Sigma has attempted to put an APS-C sensor in a compact camera. And no one else seems to be interested. I've been asking for a point-and-shoot camera with a DSLR sensor for years. I want a digital version of my old Yashica T4 Super or the Olympus Stylus Epic.

WOW, thank you very much for the excellent write up! This is very promising indeed. I am still curious about one thing though..

This statement confuses me a bit. Last Summer I bought a lot of expired film on Ebay and included in the lot was a roll of 120 SFX200 that expired in either 2005 or 2006. This means it was obviously produced a bit before then. Don't understand how this can be if it was just released last year. Sorry, only been shooting film since the end of last Summer, so unsure of the film's history.
