2/11/06- SF Chinese New Year Parade- anyone interested?

The parade (free) is coming on Saturday, February 11, 2006 5:30pm-8pm

The event is free, however if you don't like standing in the crowd, there are bleacher seats available.

Anyone interested in meeting up prior to the parade and getting some good shots?
It's a gorgeous parade, for anyone who has not been.

Named one of the top ten Parades in the world by IFEA, the Southwest Airlines Chinese New Year Parade in San Francisco is one of the few remaining night illuminated Parades in the country. Started in the 1860's by the Chinese in San Francisco as a means to educate the community about their culture, the Parade and Festival have grown to be the largest celebration of Asian culture outside of Asia.

Some of the parade highlights are the elaborate decorated floats, school marching bands, stilt walkers, lion dancers, Chinese acrobatics, the newly crowned Miss Chinatown U.S.A. and the 201 feet Golden Dragon ("Gum Lung").

    Great Idea!

Great idea! You're such a good organizer

Of course, I have a previous commitment. A friend is getting married that day. Otherwise I would love to be there. See if you can rally some of the other Bay Area troops. I don't understand why it's so hard to get people to come out and take pictures together!!

    Hi there,

It is a good ideal, and being half-asian it means something to me. Unfortunately Karen and I cannot make it because we are renewing our vows, and having a party that evening.

Last year we didn't have our family present, and now we doing something for the friends and family.

I hope people turn up for your get-together because its more fun.
