    1966 Lamborghini GT-400
A car few get to see in person, only 147 were ever made...
    note: superleggara = ultralight

Gorgeous pics of a super automobile. Tough to pic a favorite, but the last one is really special.

Itsa' gorgeous-a car-a! But it isn't most likely a Superleggera, just a badge. It is most likely a 400 GT 2+2.

If that was truly an aluminum chassis 400(GT) Superleggera there were only three made. There were less than 200 of the 350 series which included the 400 serial numbers in the 2 1/2 - 3 year production run.

There were about 2 dozen (give or take a line model or two) of the 400 GT's (12-cylinder engine) made and liberties seemingly get made with badging of all this era of car. The actual 3 Superleggera's were not badged initially externally or even painted. It was aluminum and like the Porsche 356 was shown 'bare'. Some restorers seemingly added badging to real 12-cylinder 400 GT's that weren't warranted after Lambo's patents on the production process for that aluminum body work expired.

The line is a bit different from what the Super had and the hood is wrong.

A GT Superleggera came up for sale privately in the past two years, but the price wasn't disclosed. Most estimates are that it sold for over $2,000,000.

Still, I'd take any 400 GT home, after a long cruise on straight road, with both feet flat against the firewall!!

    DrG,
I honestly don't know much about the older ones, always been a British car nut (read masochist ). It is indeed a 2+2 and is in exquisite shape, I only added the note as a translation. While I had the opportunity to speak with the owner, that wouldn't have been a question I would have thought to ask. This car was part of an "exotics" toy run, and the array of outragously high dollar sports cars was staggering, even for me who gets to see them on the road on a fairly regular basis. There were 80+ Ferraris, 45 Lambos, 34 big body porsches, a couple GT-500s, a dozen Masseratis, a sprinkling of Rolls/Bentleys, a pair of McClarens, 15 Lotus, a cobra (kit, but spectacular) and some odd balls - like a Ginetta G20

Here's a couple more of this car and a pano of most of the Ferraris before the start of the run...

Sigh. Those are some gorgeous red cars. To me that could be Christmas forever. 12 cylinders and a full tank.

Best of the Season to you and yours!
