    Wireless Speedlight Commander
I am in looking for some kind of Wireless Speed light Commander or trigger for my SB-600. I want to be able to fire off my SB-600 off camera with an umbrella that will in turn trigger my AB800. I know they have the SU-800 that is very expensive and defeats the purpose of me wanting me to use my external flash with an umbrella. If I spend that kind of money it will not be for the SU-800, it will rather be for a AB400 or AB800. I was hoping not to have to spend that kind of money at this time.

I also do not want to use my pop-up flash to trigger my SB-600.

So is there a cheaper way to trigger my SB-600 or will my AB800 trigger my SB600???

I have ordered my AB800 along with soft box that will arrive later this week. Right now I am just trying to figure out how to get my SB-600 in sync with it for with it arrives.

    Any ideas?

The AB800 has a built in optical trigger. It should fire when it senses the SB600.

Yes, I had already determined that my SB600 will fire off my AB800 but my problem is that I was trying to fire off my SB600 with something other than my pop-up flash.

    I am looking at this:

    Wondering about this:

CAUTION: Beware not to work via the hot shoe with high voltage flashes or studio strobes with a triggering voltage of 12V or higher; use PC sync port in this instance.

But that should not matter if I am only using it to fire off my SB600 which in turn will fire off my AB800 right?

I have heard of several people using the Cactus triggers. You might check out strobist.blogspot.com. There is alot of info on there about triggering speedlights and lots of off camera lighting info.

Found a few links that might be helpful to you. The folks in the strobist group on flickr can probably answer any question you have about the cactus triggers pretty quickly.

I have some experience with handling wireless devices for indoor and outdoor photography. Usually, they are pretty reliable. I haven't had any serious issues with speedlight commanders or flash triggers of wireless nature within five years. Maybe your device had some manufacturing defects. As for flash triggers, I have this one https://geeklah.com/best-wireless-flash-trigger.html and it's quite convenient to work with.
