Starter set of Strobes

I have been using hot lights for indoor shots and am ready to buy my first set of strobes. Can someone suggest a good starter set for me to get that is not too expensive. Or perharps a place where I can find some nice used ones. Thanks so much!

Calumet, Adorama and B&H Photo/Video would be a good place to start for used. I just got a quote from the alien bees folks for two B1600's, stands, 48" umbrellas and carry bags for about $985 delivered. I'll be doing everything from head shots to high school sized band groups, so that's why the bigger units.
