    Help with background stands (crossbar)
I have two Avenger stands and need to figure out a crossbar for my background.

What I'm looking for is a cross bar that is sturdy, expands to at least 6 feet. I need to be able to put it in my car because I always go on location to shoot.

Also what do I need to get it to connect to my stands. Right now all I have are grips for my lastolite skylight/reflectors.

    Can anyone help? Thank you!

JETA, it depends on what kind of background you want to use. If you simply mean seamless paper on a tube roll, check out this link: Bogen A2033LKit 40" Sliding Leg, Century Stand Kit 33 Steel

In the photo, look at that piece with the clamp end and the long rod. One of those on each stand will hold a roll of paper pretty well. Now, if you also mean backdrop fabric, then yeah, you will need a pole that will stretch the entire distance between the stands...

I don't know your budget, but you may want to consider buying a stand-alone bg holder in kit form, and save the Avenger stands for your lights...

Oh sorry about the lack of info. It's a fabric background.

Since I already have the avenger stands I was hoping to use them and not buy any more. However, I'd love to know what you'd recommend if you don't think they will work.

No, of course they'll work. It's just that in general, bg stands are cheaper than light stands. You can buy a separate cross bar for them, but it probably won't be collapsible and I'd guess there will be some jerry-rigging involved to make it fit your stands. Or maybe you could use PVC and drill holes near the ends so it can slide onto the stands...

Gotcha. I'd rather pass on the jerry rigging. If you could recommend something I'd really REALLY appreciate. Thank you so much for your time.

Here's B&H's web site. Put "backdrop stand" in the search box:

    B&H search

You'll have to sift through the results. There are several cross bars, and a bunch of bg holder sets. Should be a good starting point...

Thank you! I've been searching the web since I last replied. Found one kit at Adomrama I like and then I found a cross bar that's supposed to work on all light stands.... Decisions, decisions.... Thanks again for your time.

I just wanted to update this thread in case anyone is looking for decent portable stands and cross bar. This is the kit I ended up with. I'm beyond pleased and am headed out the door for a shoot with it now.

It's more than stable for my 10' x 12' muslin backdrop. To my eye I don't see any bowling. The carrying case is very durable. I'm a small female and I more can handle carrying this along with all of my other gear to a shoot.
