Hi and welcome to the site!

Which camera system are you using? I've been using Nikon's Creative Lighting system and I know a little bit about it. At my home computer I've got a link to a web page (I think its called The Strobist or something like that) and the guy that runs it explains a bunch about how to use off camera flashes.

I also have a few links that deal with Studio Strobes since I have recently gotten a pair of those and am learning how to use them.
