A decent background support is a good investment, especially if you plan ot use it a lot. Calumet's budget stand is not too bad. Go to their site and put MF6090 in the search box...
Of course you can always rig a bg stand out of light stands and clamps...
Re: Going to buy a backdrop
I thought I found a good deal, but that one seems to be a little better. I'll probably go for that.
Is it worth it to get musin? or are the paper rolls just fine?

My wife picked me up this one from Amazon. It's pretty nice and can be set up either 9' or 12 feet wide. I picked up muslin from Joann fabric, enough to make three 9'x9' backdrops for around $30.

Well, they're two entirely different looks. Paper will always give you a smooth bg, and can be made "invisible" if you want (seemless, infinity). It's cheap enough to be able to have a decent selection of colors on hand.
Muslin is textured and automatically gives a certain style to your shots that you cannot get with paper.
In a perfect world, you'd probably want to have both...
Re: Going to buy a backdrop
I have to agree with Steve, I use a combination of Muslin and paper, although the muslin is a bit more portable. I might even be adding some white vinyl for doing dance portraits when my daughter's dance school gets ready for their recital. It'll be paid for with only one client order. It's easy to clean and stands up to a bunch of stomping by dancers.
Re: Going to buy a backdrop
As long as many of you cutomers like it, it probably means it is a decent background. Right?
Re: Going to buy a backdrop
I have an Impact brand backdrop stand $99 at B&H photo. I like it alot. I also have a double sided Botero muslin that I ordered from B&H for around the same price that gets a ton of use.
Re: Going to buy a backdrop
So Jerryjohn..did you find the best backdrops for your needs? :)
