Getting Red Tinge to Hair and sometimes face

I am using an Alien B400 and a cheap fill light. When using a white background sometimes if a person has blond hair, it looks like it has a red tinge to it. Even other backdrops, I get red blotchy faces.
Do i not have my settings right. Should my lights be positioned differently. Right now my main light with shoot through umbrella is placed to the left of the subject just a bit higher than them about 4 feet away. My fill is to the right at an angle and placed higher than the main.
Any suggestions.!!

I think we need to know a lot more before we can begin to help you. For instance, are you shooting film or digital? What camera, and what settings? Is your fill also an electronic flash? What type?

If you could post an example of the problem shot and point out the specific area, we'd have a better idea of exactly what you mean.

Assuming your film/white balance setting matches your light color temp, normal electronic flash shouldn't be giving off a color cast, certainly not a red one. Stray colors and casts in shots are usually not caused by the light itself, but rather reflections off colored objects close to your subject. Are you sure that isn't the case here?

The general position of your lights should not be a factor, either, unless (as I just metioned) that position causes them to reflect color off of something onto the subject.

Still, you might consider moving the positon of your lights around, and noticing if the cast still shows. That might help pinpoint the problem...

BTW, a fill light is normally positioned LOWER than the key. I mean, there are no hard or set rules, but it's usually at or slightly below the eye level of your subject.
