Yep, DIY stuff is always good to know. That ring light seems like a ridiculous amount of work, though, for a fixture that I would imagine has very limited use.

I especially like using tinted CD jewel cases as color filters...

There was another site that I saw a while back that had plans to make a macro right light flash adapter dealie using the cover from a spindle of CD-Rs, cardboard, some white paper and a few rubber bands. Cool stuff indeed.

It's curious, but -and, Mr.Steve, I think a masterclass is needed here- I can't really understand which are the differences between the effects of the Beauty Dish and the Ring Light.Of course, both of them separate the subject from the background and outline it.Both of them reflect doughnut-like sparkles in the model's eyes.Perhaps the Ring Light makes what you are photographing look more three-dimensional.But, appart from that-which are the diferences?

I'm going to try that CD trick too, really love the look of gel lighting

Does anyone have plans for making a 4 foot by 8 foot reflector panel made out of PC pipes. I need to make one today!

Funny, I've been thinking of making and selling my own PVC light panels. I'd be happy to sketch out the design for you, but there's no way I can do it today... :(

It's really common sense if you think about it. You have two horizontal pieces (top and bottom), four vertical side pieces (or two if you don't care about being able to break it down and store it in a small bag). Two elbow joints for the top corners, two collar connectors for each of the two side pairs.

The only tricky part is the feet. I use a pair of "T" connectors on each side at the bottom. The first T is sideways, IOW the "top" of the T goes up and down, the "bottom" of the T plugs into the bottom horizontal piece.

The second T connects to this underneath (the T is upside down). Two smal PVC pieces extend out from each side of this upside down T to from the feet.

Hopefully, this is not as complicated as it sounds. If you see a diagram, it's really quite a simple design. Maybe I can add one a bit later...

oops! Sorry, I meant with PVC pipes not PC pipes.

Thanks, I ran out to Home Depot and bought PVC pipe it did turn out to be alot of common sence. I didn't buy the pieces to make feet but I think that's a great idea.
I was thinking about putting a pvc pole on the back like an easel. I worked on it most of the day ); and didn't get it done. I tried to buy the fabric panels for it and it will take weeks to get so I'm just going to have to make my own.

Fitted sheets might be quick and cheap.
Available in many colours too.
